Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra was born Tara Leigh Patrick to Patricia, a singer, and Harry Patrick, an entertainer and guitarist. Her older sister Debbie was an important influence in her childhood. Electra's mother died of brain cancer in 1998, and Debbie died of a heart attack within two weeks of her mother's death.

Electra was married to basketball player Dennis Rodman from 1998 to 1999. She later married Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro in 2003, and their divorce was finalized in 2007. She was engaged to musician Rob Patterson in 2008, but the couple did not marry. In 2024, she legally changed her name from Tara Leigh Patrick to Carmen Electra.

Electra began her professional career as a dancer in the It's Magic show at Kings Island amusement park in Ohio in 1990. She moved to Minneapolis in 1991, where she met musician Prince after he saw her performing with a rap group. Prince signed her to Paisley Park Records and produced her self-titled debut album, Carmen Electra, released in 1993. The project was her only studio album, and she also toured Europe as Prince's opening act on his Diamonds and Pearls Tour.

The name Carmen Electra became her professional name during her association with Paisley Park Records. She later worked at Prince's Los Angeles nightclub, Glam Slam, and performed with the Erotic City dancers. Electra also modeled for Playboy, beginning a series of pictorials in the 1990s.

Electra moved to Los Angeles and made her acting debut in the independent film American Vampire in 1997. That year she joined the cast of Baywatch as Lani McKenzie, a role that brought her international attention and established her public image as a television star. She reprised Lani in the television film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding in 2003.

Electra also became a host and television personality. She took over as co-host of MTV's dating game show Singled Out and later appeared on programs including BattleBots, Hollywood Squares, Manhunt, and Britain's Got Talent, where she served as a guest judge during the London auditions. She attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, where she was an older classmate of musician Nick Lachey and appeared with him in a production of Peter Pan.

Electra played Drew Decker in the horror-comedy parody Scary Movie in 2000. She later appeared as Holly in Scary Movie 4, and became closely associated with spoof films through roles in Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Disaster Movie. Her other film credits include Get Over It, Starsky & Hutch, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, I Want Candy, and Good Burger 2.

For Starsky & Hutch, Electra won the 2004 MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss. Her television work has included voice roles in Tripping the Rift, American Dad!, and King of the Hill, as well as appearances in The Simpsons, House, Jane the Virgin, Alone Together, The Last Dance, and That '90s Show.

Electra has extended her entertainment career into fitness, writing, and business. She released the fitness video Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease and wrote the self-help book How to Be Sexy in 2007. She also served as commissioner and host of the Naked Women's Wrestling League and appeared in advertising campaigns for brands including Max Factor and Ritz Camera Centers.

She has supported organizations including Head to Hollywood, which assists brain tumor survivors, and Elevate Hope, which supports abused and abandoned children. Electra also launched the skincare brand Electraskin and participated in the ABC News Studios docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, reflecting on the cultural impact of Baywatch.
