Jenny McCarthy is an American actress and model known for being named Playboy's 1994 Playmate of the Year and for hosting MTV's Singled Out. She later became a television host, author, and judge on Fox's The Masked Singer.

Personal life

McCarthy was married to actor and director John Mallory Asher from 1999 until their divorce in 2005. They have a son, Evan Joseph, who was diagnosed with autism in 2005.

She began dating actor and comedian Jim Carrey in 2005, and their relationship ended in 2010. McCarthy began dating singer and actor Donnie Wahlberg in 2013, announced their engagement in 2014, and married him on August 31, 2014.

Playboy modeling and early television work

McCarthy began modeling for Playboy in 1993 and appeared as the magazine's Miss October. She was named Playmate of the Year in 1994, after which she moved to Los Angeles and hosted Hot Rocks, a Playboy TV music-video program.

In 1995, she became a co-host of MTV's dating-game show Singled Out alongside Chris Hardwick. She later hosted the MTV sketch-comedy program The Jenny McCarthy Show, which led to her starring role in the NBC sitcom Jenny from 1997 to 1998.

Film and television roles

McCarthy's film credits include BASEketball, Scream 3, Scary Movie 3, Dirty Love, John Tucker Must Die, and Santa Baby. She produced, wrote, and starred in Dirty Love, for which she received Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Actress and Worst Screenplay.

Her television work has included appearances in The Drew Carey Show, Charmed, Two and a Half Men, In the Motherhood, Chuck, and Santa Baby 2: Christmas Maybe. She also voiced Six in Tripping the Rift and Special Agent Tanya Adams in the video game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.

The View and later hosting work

McCarthy joined ABC's The View as a co-host in 2013 and left the program after one season in 2014. During the same period, she hosted Love in the Wild and presented The Jenny McCarthy Show.

She hosted the SiriusXM program Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy, later renamed The Jenny McCarthy Show. She also served as a correspondent for Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest for a decade and appeared with Wahlberg in the reality series Donnie Loves Jenny.

The Masked Singer and public advocacy

McCarthy became a judge on Fox's singing competition series The Masked Singer in 2019. The program features celebrities competing while concealing their identities, and her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, appeared as the contestant Cluedle-Doo in the show's fifth season.

After Evan's diagnosis, McCarthy became involved with autism-related organizations including Talk About Curing Autism and Generation Rescue. She served as president of Generation Rescue when the organization ceased operations in 2019 and became a prominent advocate for alternative autism treatments and changes to vaccination schedules. Medical research does not support a causal link between vaccines and autism, and her public views on the subject have drawn substantial criticism.

Books about parenting and autism

McCarthy has written books about pregnancy, motherhood, and autism. Her titles include Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth about Pregnancy and Childbirth, Baby Laughs, Life Laughs: The Naked Truth about Motherhood, Marriage, and Moving On, and Louder than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism.

She also wrote Mother Warriors: A Nation of Parents Healing Autism Against All Odds and co-wrote Healing and Preventing Autism with Jerry Kartzinel. Louder than Words and Mother Warriors became best-selling books.
