Star Bandz

Star Bandz entered a recording studio at 11 and began writing music at 12. Her mother had shared videos of her performing other artists’ songs, and a rapper who knew her mother encouraged her to write and record original music. She began releasing music professionally at 14, starting with “No Hook” in 2022.

She has balanced music with school by moving from a local Chicago school to homeschooling. She has discussed plans to graduate early as her performance and recording schedule becomes more demanding. Her early musical inspiration included the young rapper Baby Kaely, while her Chicago upbringing influenced her accent, storytelling, and direct lyrical style.

The name Star Bandz developed from the nickname Baby Got Bandz, which she began using when she opened a Snapchat account at 10. She later carried the nickname onto Instagram before adopting Star Bandz as her professional name.

Her aliases include Star, SB, Estrella, and STAR. The title of her debut mixtape, Estrella, means “star” in Spanish and reflects the identity and aspirations she has developed through her music.

Her first release, “No Hook,” arrived in 2022, followed by the Big Bandz extended play in August of that year. She released “Too Many Options,” “Not A Diss,” and “Bigger Better Badder” in 2023, then issued “Act Like You Kno,” “Yea Yea,” and “How The Game Go” during 2024. “Yea Yea” received a remix featuring Veeze, and she joined Veeze’s The Worst Tour Ever.

In 2024, Star Bandz appeared on Sugarhill Ddot’s “My Baby,” a collaboration that expanded her audience beyond Chicago. She also worked with Luh Tyler and BabyChiefDoIt, opened for JT and Lil Durk, and received public support from Polo G. She was ranked fifth on Complex’s 2024 list of the 13 best teenage rappers.

Her debut mixtape, Estrella, was released in November 2024 as a 13-track project featuring collaborations with Sugarhill Ddot, Luh Tyler, and BabyChiefDoIt. The deluxe edition, Estrella Deluxe, followed in March 2025. The project includes “Cut Throat,” “4 Deep,” “Mirror Mirror,” and “What You Sayin,” songs that highlight her personal writing and melodic range.

Star Bandz has built her style around sharp lyricism, personal storytelling, and a clean delivery that avoids profanity. She has explained that keeping her lyrics suitable for a younger audience helps distinguish her within drill rap. Songs such as “Cut Throat” and “4 Deep” draw on her experiences, while “Mirror Mirror” and “What You Sayin” show her versatility across different sounds.

Her approach is grounded in staying authentic and avoiding imitation. She has described “4 Deep” as a song about maintaining the same three close friends, and she connects her writing to relatable observations and direct statements. Her collaboration with Sugarhill Ddot on “My Baby” was created through an open-verse process, while the song also helped connect her with listeners from different musical audiences.
