Reneé Rapp

Rapp came out as a lesbian in 2024 after identifying as bisexual in a 2022 interview. She has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and a mood disorder, and has spoken about her eating disorder and mental health.

Rapp was in relationships with Broadway actor Antonio Cipriano from 2019 to 2021 and TikTok personality Alissa Carrington from January to October 2023. She and British musician Towa Bird made their public debut as a couple at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar party.

Rapp attended Hopewell High School in Huntersville, North Carolina, where she performed in the theater program and played on the varsity women's golf team. She later transferred to Northwest School of the Arts and was accepted into the musical theater program at Texas State University.

In 2018, she won the Best Actress award at the Blumey Awards for playing Sandra in her school's production of Big Fish. She went on to win Best Performance by an Actress at the Jimmy Awards in New York City, a distinction that helped lead to her professional theater career. Actress Laura Benanti presented the award.

Rapp made her professional stage breakthrough as Wendla in Theatre Charlotte's 2018 production of Spring Awakening. She also participated in a reading of Parade by Roundabout Theatre Company and performed at several theater events in New York.

In 2019, Rapp took over the role of Regina George in the Broadway musical Mean Girls. She first played the role during a limited engagement before beginning a permanent run at the August Wilson Theatre. The production closed during Broadway's 2020 shutdown and did not reopen.

Rapp reprised Regina George in the 2024 musical film adaptation of Mean Girls. She also performed and co-wrote songs for the film's soundtrack, including “Not My Fault,” a collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion.

In 2020, Rapp was cast as Leighton Murray, one of the four lead characters in Mindy Kaling's HBO Max comedy series The Sex Lives of College Girls. The series followed students navigating friendship, college life and relationships.

Rapp played Leighton across the show's first two seasons and returned in a recurring capacity during its third season. Her television credits also include an appearance as herself on Saturday Night Live, where she performed “Snow Angel” and “Not My Fault.”

Rapp released her debut EP, Everything to Everyone, in November 2022. A deluxe edition followed in February 2023 with two additional songs. Her first headlining tour, Everything to Everyone: The First Shows, sold out across eight U.S. performances in December 2022, and she later performed a sold-out show at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town.

Her debut studio album, Snow Angel, arrived in August 2023. A deluxe edition released later that year added four songs, including a remix of “Tummy Hurts” featuring Coco Jones. The album earned Rapp the 2024 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Artist.

Rapp's music combines pop, R&B and pop rock. She has cited Beyoncé as a major vocal influence and Frank Ocean as a songwriting inspiration, while also naming Jazmine Sullivan, SZA, Kacey Musgraves and Pink among her influences.

Rapp announced her second studio album, Bite Me, in 2025 and released “Leave Me Alone” as its lead single. She performed the song at the American Music Awards and later released “Mad” as a promotional single. The album was inspired in part by Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill and Joan Jett.

She was named a global ambassador for L'Oréal Paris in 2025. That same year, she served as a grand marshal at WorldPride DC alongside Laverne Cox.
