Junior H is a Mexican singer-songwriter known as a pioneer of the corridos tumbados movement, blending traditional Mexican styles with urban sierreño and trap rhythms. He gained prominence with his breakthrough studio albums Mi Vida en un Cigarro and Atrapado en un Sueño, and achieved widespread international chart success through hit tracks such as "Lady Gaga" and "El Azul".
Early life and online beginnings
Antonio Herrera Pérez grew up in Cerano, within the municipality of Yuriria in Guanajuato, Mexico. He began writing song lyrics alongside a friend around the age of 12, prior to learning how to play any instruments. In 2015, at age 15, he relocated with his family to Utah in the United States, where he balanced attending high school with working as a cook at a local Wendy's restaurant.
While living in Utah, Herrera taught himself how to play the guitar and the accordion by watching instructional tutorials on YouTube. He started recording and uploading his original songs to YouTube under the stage name Junior H, choosing the pseudonym so that people would not easily connect him to the music if it failed. After leaving the uploads unattended for a month, he returned to discover that his self-released track "No Eh Cambiado" had accumulated over two million views and widespread listener support.
Breakthrough and Rancho Humilde
The viral momentum of "No Eh Cambiado" brought Herrera to the attention of music executive Jimmy Humilde, who signed him to the independent record label Rancho Humilde. In February 2019, Herrera released his debut studio album, Mi Vida en un Cigarro. That same year, he contributed to the milestone compilation Corridos Tumbados, collaborating with labelmate Natanael Cano on the single "Disfruto lo Malo" and providing his self-written composition "Ella".
In March 2020, Junior H released his second studio album, Atrapado en un Sueño, featuring singles like "Mente Positiva" and "Jueves 10". The release debuted at number five on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, making him the youngest artist after Natanael Cano to reach the chart's top ten. Later that September, he released two full-length albums on the same day: Cruisin' with Junior H and Musica <3. In December 2020, he joined Natanael Cano and Cuban artist Ovi to release the collaborative album Las 3 Torres, which included guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Ñengo Flow, and Snow Tha Product.
Urban sierreño and mainstream chart success
Junior H expanded his signature "sad sierreño" style with the February 2021 release of $ad Boyz 4 Life, a 16-track album focusing on themes of romance and heartbreak that reached the top of Apple Music's Latin Albums chart within 24 hours. A follow-up project, Mi Vida en un Cigarro 2, arrived in February 2022. Later that year, he explored Latin trap on the studio album Contingente, featuring collaborations with artists such as Alemán, Big Soto, and Paloma Mami.
His mainstream chart footprint broadened substantially in 2023 through collaborative singles. He entered the Billboard Hot 100 with "Fin de Semana" alongside Oscar Maydon, followed by several major partnerships with Peso Pluma, including "El Azul" and "Lady Gaga" (with Gabito Ballesteros). "Lady Gaga" peaked at number one on both the Mexico Songs and Hot Latin Songs charts. In October 2023, Junior H released $ad Boyz 4 Life II, an entirely solo album led by the hit single "Y Lloro", which debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200.
