Malcolm Todd

Malcolm Todd Hobert was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 15, 2003. His father, Tim Hobert, worked as a television writer and co-executive producer on the sitcom The Middle. As a child, Todd made a brief cameo as a baseball player on the show. His mother introduced him to musical theatre and Stevie Wonder, while his father played him classic folk and rock recordings by artists like James Taylor and the Grateful Dead. His sister, Audrey Hobert, is also a singer-songwriter.

Todd grew up in Pacific Palisades and attended Palisades Charter High School. He began singing at age five and later performed in the school jazz band and musical pit ensembles. At sixteen, he received a bass guitar and taught himself to play during the COVID-19 pandemic. He soon picked up acoustic guitar as well. Collaborating with high school classmate Charlie Ziman, he wrote and recorded his debut EP, Demos Before Prom, released in 2022.

After graduating from high school in 2022, Todd intended to study music production at the University of Oregon. He dropped out one week before classes started. To support his early recording sessions, he took a job scooping ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery.

Todd built an audience on TikTok in 2023 when snippets of his songs "Art House" and "Roommates" attracted millions of streams. He signed with Columbia Records shortly after. In July 2023, he played his first live concert at Winston House in Venice, California. The show sold out.

He released his debut mixtape, Sweet Boy, in 2024. The project blended alternative R&B and bedroom pop, drawing inspiration from artists such as Steve Lacy, Dominic Fike, and Omar Apollo. Later that year, Todd joined Apollo as an opening act on the North American leg of the God Said No World Tour alongside rapper Kevin Abstract.

Todd released his self-titled debut studio album on April 4, 2025. The record included the single "Bleed", which featured Omar Apollo and was accompanied by a music video with cameos by Jack Harlow and Harry Daniels. Another single from the album, "Chest Pain (I Love)", reached number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. A deluxe edition titled Malcolm Todd (still) arrived in August 2025, lifting the record to number 49 on the Billboard 200.

His second studio album, Do That Again, arrived on June 5, 2026. Preceded by the singles "Breathe" and "I Saw Your Face", the album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200. Around the same time, his 2024 song "Earrings" found renewed popularity on streaming services. The track climbed to number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in the United Kingdom and Canada.
