Chloe Kim

Kim is the daughter of Boran Kim and Jong Jin Kim, immigrants from South Korea. She has two older sisters, Erica and Tracy, and is a second-generation Korean American who speaks English, Korean, and French.

Her father left his job to drive her to training and competitions, including the long trips from Southern California to Mammoth Mountain. In 2025, Kim and NFL defensive end Myles Garrett confirmed their relationship.

Kim began snowboarding at age four after her parents bought her first board. She started competing at age six with Team Mountain High and later trained at Mammoth Mountain. From ages eight to ten, she lived with an aunt in Switzerland, where she trained in the Alps.

Kim joined the U.S. Snowboarding Team in 2013. She was too young for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, but made her X Games debut that year at age 13 and won a silver medal in the superpipe, becoming the youngest competitor to win an X Games medal.

In 2015, she won her first X Games superpipe gold medal at age 14. At the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, she won gold in both halfpipe and slopestyle, became the first American woman to win a snowboarding gold medal at the Youth Olympics, and served as Team USA's flag bearer.

At the 2016 U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, Kim became the first woman to land back-to-back 1080-degree spins in a snowboarding competition. She also scored a perfect 100, becoming only the second rider to achieve that score after Shaun White.

Kim won the FIS World Cup halfpipe rankings for the 2017 season and entered the 2018 Winter Olympics as a leading contender. Her teenage success also included four X Games gold medals before her 18th birthday and a series of victories that established her as one of the leading athletes in women's halfpipe snowboarding.

At the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Kim won the women's halfpipe gold medal at age 17. Her final run scored 98.25 points and included two consecutive 1080-degree jumps, making her the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal at the time. She became the first woman to land back-to-back 1080s in Olympic competition.

Kim defended her title at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. She won with a first-run score of 94.00 after landing two clean 1080-degree jumps, becoming the first female snowboarder to win consecutive Olympic halfpipe gold medals.

At the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Kim won silver in the women's halfpipe behind South Korean snowboarder Choi Ga-on. She competed despite a shoulder injury sustained during training and finished as a three-time Olympic medalist.

Kim has won eight X Games superpipe gold medals, tying Shaun White for the most halfpipe wins in X Games history. She has reached the podium in each X Games competition she entered, earning eight gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

In 2024, Kim became the first woman to land a 1260 in halfpipe competition. In January 2025, she became the first woman to land a cab double cork 1080 in a snowboard halfpipe contest. She has also won three world championship halfpipe titles, in 2019, 2021, and 2025.

Her 2018 Olympic victory completed titles in the Olympics, World Championships, Youth Olympics, and X Games, making her the first snowboarder to win at all four major events.

After the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Kim took a break from competitive snowboarding because of burnout and concerns about her mental health. She attended Princeton University and took a leave of absence during the period away from competition.

Kim returned to snowboarding in 2024 and won consecutive X Games superpipe gold medals in 2024 and 2025. She also won the 2025 world championship halfpipe title and several World Cup competitions, securing her place on the U.S. team for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

During her return, Kim emphasized enjoying snowboarding, using familiar tricks from her childhood, and maintaining an identity beyond competition results. She has also spoken publicly about mental health and anti-Asian racism.

Kim has appeared in the film Charlie's Angels, the television program The Masked Singer, and the music video for Maroon 5 and Cardi B's "Girls Like You." She voiced herself in an episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and became a playable character in Fortnite in 2022.

Following her 2018 Olympic victory, Kim appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and was featured on a special edition of a Kellogg's Corn Flakes box. Mattel produced a Shero Barbie based on her likeness, and she appeared in Nike's "Dream Crazier" campaign with Serena Williams and other prominent women athletes.

Kim has won five ESPY Awards, including three consecutive Best Female Action Sports Athlete awards. She has also won the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year award three times and was included on Time magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People.
