Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid is an American fashion model known as the face of Dior. She became one of the most recognizable figures on the international runway, earning Model of the Year honors and appearing on dozens of Vogue covers.
Family, equestrian background, and health
Bella Hadid is the daughter of real-estate developer Mohamed Hadid and former model Yolanda Hadid. Her siblings include models Gigi Hadid and Anwar Hadid, as well as her half-sisters Marielle, Alana, and Aydan. The Hadid children spent much of their early life on a ranch in Santa Barbara, California.
Hadid began horseback riding at age three and competed in horsemanship until she was 15. She pursued equestrian competition at a national level and dreamed of competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but chronic Lyme disease made riding increasingly difficult and ended those plans. She was diagnosed with the illness in 2012, alongside her mother and brother, and has discussed symptoms including brain fog, anxiety, exhaustion, insomnia, headaches, and joint pain.
Hadid has described herself as proud to be Muslim. She has also spoken about a spiritual outlook that connects her with multiple religions.
Early modeling and international runway breakthrough
Hadid began modeling at 16 with a commercial project for Flynn Skye. She signed with IMG Models in August 2014 and made her New York Fashion Week debut that September, walking for Desigual. She moved to New York after high school to study photography at Parsons School of Design, but suspended her studies as modeling opportunities expanded.
Her first major runway appearance came with Tom Ford's Fall/Winter 2015 collection. During the same year, she walked for designers including Diane von Fürstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Jeremy Scott, Balmain, and Chanel. She also appeared in campaigns for Topshop, Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply, Balmain with Gigi Hadid, and Victoria's Secret Pink.
Hadid's profile grew sharply in 2016. She made her Chanel Couture debut, walked exclusively for Givenchy, Chanel, and Miu Miu in Paris, opened and closed Misha Collection's Resort 17 show in Australia, and made her Victoria's Secret Fashion Show debut in November. Her 2017 runway work included opening shows for DKNY, Alberta Ferretti, and Fendi, as well as closing shows for Oscar de la Renta and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini.
Dior, Vogue covers, and fashion recognition
In May 2016, Hadid became an ambassador for Dior Makeup and appeared in the brand's web series Dior Makeup with Bella Hadid. She later represented or appeared in campaigns for Bulgari, Fendi, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Nike, TAG Heuer, Versace, Max Mara, and other major fashion companies.
Hadid received her first Vogue cover for Vogue Türkiye in 2016. In 2017, she appeared on five international Vogue September covers, for editions including China, Spain, Brazil, Australia, and Arabia, surpassing the previous record associated with Doutzen Kroes. Across her career, she has appeared on at least 35 international Vogue covers.
She won Model of the Year at the Daily Front Row's Fashion Los Angeles Awards and the GQ Men of the Year Awards in 2016. Models.com industry professionals also voted her Model of the Year in 2016, and the British Fashion Council named her Model of the Year in 2022. Her runway appearances have included notable moments such as closing Coperni's Spring 2023 show with a dress spray-painted directly onto her body.
Career break, business ventures, and acting
Hadid took a break from modeling in early 2023. She returned to the runway in 2024 for Saint Laurent and Victoria's Secret, followed by an official return as the closing model for Saint Laurent's Fall 2025 show. She also appeared at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and on the June 2025 cover of British Vogue.
In 2021, Hadid became co-founder and business partner of Kin Euphorics, a nonalcoholic adaptogenic beverage brand, working alongside founder and chief executive Jen Batchelor. In 2024, she launched Orebella, a beauty company focused on fragrances.
Hadid made her scripted acting debut as Lena in the third season of Ramy. She later appeared as Sadie in Yellowstone and was listed for the role of Ruby Rossdale in The Beauty. Her screen work also includes appearances in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Making a Model with Yolanda Hadid, and the music video for The Weeknd's song "In the Night."
Palestinian advocacy and public activism
Hadid has connected her activism to her family's Palestinian heritage and her father's history as a refugee. In January 2017, she attended the "No Ban, No Wall" march in New York to protest Donald Trump's travel ban and proposed border wall. She later joined protests in London against the decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Hadid continued to speak publicly about Palestinian issues during the conflicts involving Israel and Hamas. In 2023, she condemned Hamas's October 7 attacks while also criticizing Israel's subsequent actions in Gaza. In 2024, she and Gigi Hadid donated $1 million to organizations providing aid to children and families in Palestine.
Relationships and collaborations
Hadid was in an on-again, off-again relationship with singer-songwriter The Weeknd from 2015 to 2019. Their professional connection included her appearance in his 2015 music video for "In the Night." She also dated art director Marc Kalman from 2020 until their separation in spring 2023.
Her modeling career has included repeated collaborations with Gigi Hadid. The sisters appeared together in campaigns for Balmain, Fendi, Moschino, Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply, and Vogue, and walked together for Chanel Haute Couture. Hadid has said that the sisters generally supported each other's careers rather than competing with one another.
