Sofia Richie is an American model and fashion designer known for walking runways for Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana. She has also appeared in campaigns for brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Adidas, and Madonna's Material Girl line.
Personal life
Sofia Richie has been married to music executive Elliot Grainge since April 22, 2023. They have two children, a daughter named Eloise and a son named Henry. Richie converted to Judaism before the wedding, which included a rabbi, a chuppah, a ketubah, and the horah.
Richie was previously in a relationship with television personality Scott Disick from 2017 to 2020. Their relationship appeared in episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Flip It Like Disick.
Early life and musical background
Richie is the daughter of musician Lionel Richie and Diane Alexander, and the younger sister of Nicole Richie and Miles Richie. Her godfather was singer Michael Jackson, and she became close friends with Jackson's daughter, Paris Jackson, during childhood.
Richie learned to sing at five and play the piano at seven. She took vocal lessons from Tim Carter at 14 and worked in the studio with Joel Madden, the lead vocalist of Good Charlotte. She ultimately chose not to pursue music professionally because of the pressure of following her father's career.
She attended Oaks Christian School before being homeschooled for several years while Lionel Richie was touring. Richie played soccer until she was 16, when she broke her hip in a Segway accident.
Modeling career
Richie began modeling at 14 with a feature in Teen Vogue. At 15, she signed her first fashion contract with Los Angeles swimwear company Mary Grace Swim, and she later signed with Select Model Management in London. Her early work included editorials for Elle Girl, Nylon, Dazed, Fault, and Love Culture, as well as a 2014 online campaign with Teen Vogue and Olay.
She made her runway debut at the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection during New York Fashion Week in February 2016. She subsequently walked for Chanel, Jeremy Scott, Philipp Plein, Kanye West's Yeezy line, Samantha Thavasa, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Richie has appeared in advertising campaigns for DL1961, Madonna's Material Girl, Jacquie Aiche, Adidas, Michael Kors, PrettyLittleThing, and Tommy Hilfiger. Her magazine work has included covers and editorials for Cosmopolitan, Tatler, Vogue Japan, Vanity Fair, Billboard, Complex, InStyle Mexico, and Popular.
Fashion design and media appearances
Richie expanded into fashion design in 2019 with a swimwear collection created with Frankie's Bikinis and the 60-piece Sofia Richie x Missguided clothing collection. She followed those projects with the Rolla's x Sofia Richie denim collaboration in 2020.
In 2021, she collaborated with her sister Nicole Richie on Sofia Richie x House of Harlow 1960, a 57-piece collection sold through Revolve. She also created a 61-piece capsule collection with 8 Other Reasons and a clothing collection with Macy's Bar III.
Richie made her television debut on Candidly Nicole in 2014 and later appeared on The Insider, Entertainment Tonight, Flip It Like Disick, and Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She made a cameo as herself in the 2018 film Ocean's 8.
