Karlie Kloss

Kloss began dating businessman and investor Joshua Kushner in 2012. She converted to Judaism in June 2018. The couple became engaged a month later and married on October 18, 2018, in upstate New York. They held a second wedding celebration in Wyoming in June 2019. Through her marriage, she is the sister-in-law of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

The couple has three children: two sons, Levi Joseph and Elijah Jude, and a daughter, Rae Florence. Over the years, they have maintained residences in Miami, a penthouse in Manhattan's Puck Building, and the Wave House in Malibu.

Kloss grew up in St. Louis and trained in classical ballet. She was discovered at a local benefit runway show in 2005. The poise carried over. Elite Model Management signed her after she posed for Scene Magazine in 2006 at age 14. Her early commercial work included an Abercrombie Kids shoot with Bruce Weber.

Her breakout arrived in 2008 after she moved to Next Management. She walked 31 shows at New York Fashion Week, opening for Carolina Herrera and closing for Marc Jacobs. By the end of the year, she had completed 64 runway appearances across New York, Milan, and Paris. Vogue Paris named her one of the top thirty models of the 2000s. She opened multiple Christian Dior haute couture and resort presentations for designer John Galliano. Later she signed with IMG Models and The Society Management, appearing in campaigns for Jean Paul Gaultier, Donna Karan, Elie Saab, and Chanel.

Kloss made her debut in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2011. She walked as an official Victoria's Secret Angel from 2013 to 2015. Just before the 2012 show, she cut her hair into a cropped bob dubbed the Karlie. In 2015, she left the lingerie brand to enroll at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She explained that the company's messaging conflicted with her feminist values.

Television work ran alongside her modeling. She made a cameo as herself on Gossip Girl in 2010 and co-hosted the MTV revival of House of Style with Joan Smalls in 2012. Later, she served as a correspondent on Bill Nye Saves the World. In October 2018, Kloss replaced Heidi Klum as host and executive producer of Project Runway. She led the series starting in season seventeen.

Kloss formed a widely publicized friendship with singer Taylor Swift after the two connected in 2012. They appeared together on the March 2015 cover of American Vogue and took a road trip to Big Sur. Kloss also appeared as the character Knockout in Swift's music video for Bad Blood in 2015. During the 1989 World Tour, she joined Swift on stage for performances at London's Hyde Park and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

In 2014, Kloss learned Ruby on Rails at the Flatiron School. Coding fascinated her. In April 2015, she launched Kode With Klossy, partnering with Flatiron School and Code.org to offer scholarships for girls in computer science. The initiative expanded into free two-week summer coding camps teaching Ruby, JavaScript, and Swift to young women and non-binary youth. By 2025, the organization reached nearly 11,000 students worldwide. In late 2025, she announced Spaghetti Code, a children's picture book about problem-solving.

Media investments followed her technology work. She led an investor group to purchase W magazine in 2020. In November 2023, she acquired the British fashion publication i-D from Vice Media Group, taking the role of chief executive officer. In March 2024, she and Joshua Kushner partnered with Dotdash Meredith through Bedford Media to revive Life magazine in print and digital formats.

During her twenties, Kloss volunteered as a clinic escort for Planned Parenthood. Reproductive healthcare became a central focus of her civic work. In 2022, she founded the Gateway Coalition to support abortion clinics in the Midwestern United States.

She took an active public role in state ballot measures in 2024. In Missouri, she gathered signatures with Missourians for Constitutional Freedom to pass Amendment 3. The measure protected abortion rights in the state constitution. She also published op-eds in The Washington Post and Miami Herald supporting reproductive ballot initiatives in Missouri and Florida.
