Tom Ellis

Tom Ellis was married to English actress Tamzin Outhwaite from 2006 until their divorce was finalized in 2014. They have two daughters together, Florence Elsie Ellis and Marnie Mae Ellis. Ellis also has a daughter, Nora Ellis-Morgan, from an earlier relationship.

He has been married to American screenwriter and producer Meaghan Oppenheimer since 2019. Their daughter, Dolly Ellis-Oppenheimer, was born via surrogate in 2023. Scottish actor James McAvoy introduced Ellis to Outhwaite.

Born Thomas John Ellis, he grew up in a religious family after moving with his parents and three sisters from Wales to Sheffield. His father, Christopher John Ellis, was a Baptist minister, as were Ellis's uncle and one of his sisters. His twin sister is Lucy Ellis.

Ellis attended High Storrs School in Sheffield and played the French horn in the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra. He later studied for a BA in Dramatic Studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, formerly known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Ellis began appearing on television in 2000, with an early role in Kiss Me Kate. His subsequent credits included The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Nice Guy Eddie, No Angels, Doctor Who, Merlin, EastEnders, The Catherine Tate Show and Pulling. He played Dr. Oliver Cousins in EastEnders and Thomas Milligan in the Doctor Who episode "Last of the Time Lords."

His first major breakthrough came with Gary Preston in the BBC sitcom Miranda, which ran from 2009 to 2015. He also played roles in The Fades, Rush, Once Upon a Time and Agatha Christie's Poirot. In Once Upon a Time, he played Robin Hood, a role he described as his first break on American television.

Ellis was cast as Lucifer Morningstar in the television drama Lucifer, based on the DC Comics character. The series premiered on Fox in 2016 and later continued on Netflix through its sixth and final season in 2021. Ellis played Lucifer, who leaves Hell for Los Angeles, where he becomes involved with the Los Angeles Police Department while operating a nightclub. He also portrayed Michael Demiurgos in the series.

He reprised Lucifer Morningstar for the 2019 The Flash episode "Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three." His performance earned him the 2021 Tell-Tale TV Award for Favorite Actor in a Cable or Streaming Sci-fi/Fantasy/Horror Series. Ellis also served as an executive producer on Lucifer.

Ellis's film credits include High Heels and Low Lifes, Buffalo Soldiers, Vera Drake, Miss Conception, Isn't It Romantic and Players. He played Nick in Players and Jason Ritchie in The Thursday Murder Club. His television work has also included Queen America, Tell Me Lies and Washington Black.

He provided voices for Family Guy, Robot Chicken, The Great North and the animated series Exploding Kittens, in which he voiced Godcat. Ellis was cast as Colin Glass in the CBS series CIA and as Jacob in the television project Second Wife.
