Shemar Moore

Moore has a daughter, Frankie, with Jesiree Dizon. Frankie was born on January 24, 2023, and Moore and Dizon later separated while remaining committed to co-parenting their daughter.

Moore is the son of Marilyn Wilson, a mathematics teacher, and Sherrod Moore. His father is African American, while his mother has Irish and French-Canadian ancestry.

Moore moved with his mother to Denmark as an infant and later lived in Bahrain, where he attended a British private school. The family returned to the United States in 1977 and lived in Chico and Palo Alto, California. He attended Gunn High School in Palo Alto before receiving an athletic scholarship to Santa Clara University.

At Santa Clara, Moore played varsity baseball as a pitcher and outfielder and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with a minor in theater arts. He worked as a model during his college years and used modeling to help pay for his education. An injury ended his hopes of pursuing professional baseball, after which he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Moore made his television breakthrough as Malcolm Winters on the CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless. He played the role from 1994 to 2002, returned in 2004, and made later guest appearances. His performance earned him the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2000.

While appearing on The Young and the Restless, Moore became the third permanent host of the syndicated music program Soul Train. He hosted the show from 1999 to 2003. His early film credits included The Brothers, Motives, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and The Seat Filler.

In 2005, Moore joined the original cast of Criminal Minds as FBI agent Derek Morgan. He played Morgan through 2016 and returned for special guest appearances. The role brought him a 2015 NAACP Image Award nomination and established him as one of the series' central television stars.

Moore began playing Sergeant Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson on the CBS action drama S.W.A.T. in 2017. He also served as a producer on the series and later became an executive producer. In film, he played Randall Handel in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and voiced Victor Stone, also known as Cyborg, in several DC animated films.

Moore has won eight NAACP Image Awards, including awards for his work on The Young and the Restless and Criminal Minds. His other recognition includes the 2000 Daytime Emmy Award and a 2016 People's Choice Award nomination for his work on Criminal Minds.

He formed the clothing company Baby Girl LLC, using the name associated with Derek Morgan's phrase on Criminal Minds. The company's profits support efforts related to multiple sclerosis, a disease his mother had. In 2016, actor Keith Tisdell pleaded guilty to stealing more than $60,000 from the company and agreed to repay the money.
