Vivica A. Fox

Vivica A. Fox was married to singer Christopher "Sixx-Nine" Harvest from 1998 to 2002. She briefly dated rapper 50 Cent in 2003 and later ended a ten-month engagement to club promoter Omar "Slimm" White in 2011.

In 2020, Fox became an honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority.

Fox began her professional career on television, appearing as Carmen Silva on Days of Our Lives in 1988. She played Maya Reubens on Generations from 1989 to 1991, a series noted for featuring an African-American family from its inception. She also appeared in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, 90210, Family Matters, Matlock and Martin.

Her early film credits included Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July in 1989 and the comedy Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. On the NBC sitcom Out All Night, she played Charisse Chamberlain, the fashion-designer daughter of Patti LaBelle's character. Fox later portrayed Dr. Stephanie Simmons on The Young and the Restless from 1994 to 1995.

Fox's breakthrough came in 1996, when she played Jasmine Dubrow, the girlfriend of Will Smith's character, in Roland Emmerich's science-fiction film Independence Day. She won the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss with Smith and received nominations for the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance and the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.

That same year, she played Francesca "Frankie" Sutton in F. Gary Gray's crime film Set It Off, alongside Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Kimberly Elise. Fox followed the two films with roles in Booty Call, Batman & Robin and Soul Food in 1997. Her later film work included Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Kingdom Come, Two Can Play That Game, Juwanna Mann, Boat Trip and Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, in which she played Vernita Green.

Fox also took leading television roles in Arsenio, Getting Personal and the medical drama City of Angels. In 2004, she began starring as FBI special agent Nicole Scott in the Lifetime crime series Missing, which she co-produced. She won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for the role in 2006.

Fox expanded into presenting and reality television as a judge on The Starlet and a contestant on Dancing with the Stars and The Apprentice. She hosted Glam God with Vivica A. Fox, The Cougar and Prank My Mom. On Dancing with the Stars, she competed with professional partner Nick Kosovich and was eliminated during the fourth week of the third season.

Her later television appearances included recurring work on Curb Your Enthusiasm and a regular role on the syndicated sitcom Mr. Box Office. In 2015, she joined Empire as Candace Mason, Cookie Lyon's sister, and became a series regular during the show's sixth and final season. She reprised her role as Jasmine Dubrow in Independence Day: Resurgence in 2016.

Fox appeared in numerous Lifetime films in the The Wrong... series and in films including Arkansas, Secret Society, Bobcat Moretti, Bosco, Not Another Church Movie and The Lost Holliday. She also competed as Mother Nature on the sixth season of The Masked Singer and was the second contestant eliminated during the two-night premiere.

Fox has produced films and television projects including Motives, The Salon, Getting Played and Three Can Play That Game. She co-produced Missing while starring in the series and continued producing made-for-television films and independent features.

Her directorial debut was First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story, a 2023 biographical crime film released through BET+. The project earned her a nomination for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Directing in a Television Movie or Special.

In 2018, Fox published Vivica's Every Day I'm Hustling, a book combining memoir and inspirational material about her career and relationships.
