Seth Rollins is an American professional wrestler known for his multiple world championship reigns in WWE, headlining WrestleMania, and co-founding the faction The Shield. He has held every major championship in the promotion, becoming both a Grand Slam Champion and a Royal Rumble winner.

Personal life and background

Colby Daniel Lopez was born in Davenport, Iowa, on May 28, 1986. He is of Armenian, German, and Irish ancestry. He took the surname Lopez from his Mexican-American stepfather, whom he regards as his true father. Lopez grew up in Iowa, graduated from Davenport West High School in 2004, and lived a straight edge lifestyle as a teenager while cultivating an affinity for heavy metal music. In 2019, a 23andMe DNA test revealed the existence of a half-brother named Brandon and a half-sister named Diandra, whom he had not previously known.

Rollins began dating Irish professional wrestler Rebecca Quin, known professionally in WWE as Becky Lynch, in January 2019. The couple announced their engagement in August 2019, welcomed a daughter named Roux in December 2020, and married on June 29, 2021. The family resides in Moline, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California. Rollins identifies as an atheist.

Outside the ring, Rollins opened a coffee shop called 329 Dport in Davenport in 2019. In 2014, he established The Black & The Brave Wrestling Academy in Moline alongside his former tag team partner Marek Brave. A dedicated fan of the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals, Rollins has also appeared as a guest analyst and contributor on NFL Network programming, including Good Morning Football.

Early career and Ring of Honor

Lopez began training under Danny Daniels and made his professional wrestling debut in August 2004 under the ring name Gixx. He soon adopted the moniker Tyler Black while competing for Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South and NWA Midwest, capturing tag team titles with Marek Brave. He also appeared for promotions including Full Impact Pro, where he won the FIP World Heavyweight Championship, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, where he held the PWG World Tag Team Championship with Jimmy Jacobs.

In September 2007, Black debuted in Ring of Honor (ROH) as part of the stable The Age of the Fall alongside Jimmy Jacobs and Necro Butcher. Black and Jacobs captured the ROH World Tag Team Championship twice. Black's singles profile rose throughout 2008 and 2009, culminating in his victory in the 2009 Survival of the Fittest tournament. At the ROH Eighth Anniversary Show in February 2010, Black defeated Austin Aries to capture the ROH World Championship, defending the title for 210 days before signing with WWE.

The Shield and WWE World Championship rise

Signing with WWE in 2010, Lopez was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) under the ring name Seth Rollins, paying homage to singer Henry Rollins. He became the inaugural FCW Jack Brisco 15 Champion and the promotion's first Grand Slam winner. Following FCW's transition to NXT in 2012, Rollins won the Gold Rush Tournament to become the inaugural NXT Champion.

Rollins debuted on WWE's main roster at Survivor Series in November 2012 alongside Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns as The Shield. The trio established a dominant run, remaining undefeated in six-man tag team competition for months and defeating factions such as Evolution. In June 2014, Rollins turned against Ambrose and Reigns to align with Triple H in The Authority, adopting the moniker "The Architect."

Rollins won the Money in the Bank ladder match in June 2014. At WrestleMania 31 in March 2015, he cashed in his contract during the main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, pinning Reigns to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the first WrestleMania cash-in in history. At SummerSlam 2015, Rollins defeated John Cena in a Winner Takes All match to hold both the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the United States Championship simultaneously. A major knee injury in November 2015 forced him to vacate the world championship after a 220-day reign.

Universal Champion and character evolutions

After returning from surgery in 2016, Rollins captured his second WWE Championship by defeating Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank, though Ambrose immediately cashed in on him. Rollins transitioned into a top heroic character, defeating Triple H at WrestleMania 33 and capturing the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 34. This win completed his WWE Grand Slam, making him the 19th superstar to achieve the distinction.

Rollins won the 2019 Men's Royal Rumble match and went on to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 to win his first Universal Championship. He regained the title from Lesnar at SummerSlam later that year. In late 2019, Rollins transitioned to a villainous persona known as the "Monday Night Messiah," leading disciples including Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory. By 2022, he evolved his character into "The Visionary" and Seth "Freakin" Rollins, featuring an eccentric personality and flamboyant wardrobe, while securing a second United States Championship reign.

Inaugural World Heavyweight Champion and The Vision

In May 2023, WWE introduced a new World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins defeated Damian Priest, Shinsuke Nakamura, Finn Bálor, and finally AJ Styles at Night of Champions to become the inaugural champion. He mounted successful defenses against competitors such as Drew McIntyre, Finn Bálor, and Jey Uso throughout a 316-day reign that concluded at WrestleMania XL.

In 2025, Rollins captured his second Money in the Bank contract, joining CM Punk as one of the few men to win the ladder match multiple times. He formed the faction "The Vision" alongside Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed. Rollins cashed in his contract at SummerSlam 2025 on CM Punk to secure the World Heavyweight Championship for a second time, and later defeated Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel in Perth to win the Crown Jewel Championship.
