Personal life

Maniscalco married painter Lana Gomez on August 24, 2013. The couple have two children, daughter Serafina Simone Maniscalco, born in 2017, and son Caruso Jack Maniscalco, born in 2019.

From the Four Seasons to The Comedy Store

Maniscalco moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and began performing at open mics in bars and bowling alleys while working as a waiter at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. He remained at the hotel from 1998 to 2005, sometimes performing at The Comedy Store during breaks from work.

In 2005, he began performing regularly at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. His early stand-up career led to appearances on Comedy Central Presents, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Conan, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He was also one of four comedians featured in Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights: Hollywood to the Heartland.

Stand-up specials and comedic style

Maniscalco released his first comedy special, Sebastian Live, in 2009. His subsequent specials included What’s Wrong with People? in 2012, Aren’t You Embarrassed? in 2014, Why Would You Do That? in 2016, Stay Hungry in 2019, Is It Me? in 2022, and It Ain’t Right in 2025. He also published the memoir Stay Hungry in 2018.

His comedy draws on Italian-American culture, family experiences, marriage, everyday life, and pop culture. His performances combine observational, satirical, black, and insult comedy with pronounced physical and verbal variations. Maniscalco has described his approach as a “Can you believe this?” style built over nearly two decades of developing and refining material.

Film and television roles

Maniscalco made his feature-film debut as a stand-up comic in The House in 2017. He later played Johnny Venere in Green Book and “Crazy” Joe Gallo in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. His other film roles include Cruise, Tag, Somewhere in Queens, Spinning Gold, Unfrosted, and IF.
