Salman Khan

Salman Khan is the eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and film producer Sushila Charak, later known as Salma Khan. His father later married actress Helen, who became Khan's stepmother. His siblings include actors and producers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, film producer and fashion designer Alvira Agnihotri Khan, and adopted sister Arpita Khan Sharma.

Khan has never married. He was in relationships with Sangeeta Bijlani, Somy Ali, Aishwarya Rai, and Katrina Kaif, and has been in a relationship with Romanian actress Iulia Vântur since 2012. He has described himself as both Hindu and Muslim, reflecting his Muslim father and Hindu mother.

Khan has spoken about suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, a painful facial nerve disorder. He underwent surgery in Los Angeles in 2011 and recovered after the procedure.

Khan began his film career with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988. His leading role in Sooraj Barjatya's romantic film Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989 established him as a major Hindi cinema star and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

He followed the breakthrough with successful appearances in Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Karan Arjun, Jeet, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Hum Saath-Saath Hain. His performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The 1994 family drama Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, in which he starred opposite Madhuri Dixit, became one of the landmark blockbusters of Hindi cinema. His role in Andaz Apna Apna also gained a cult following, while his performance in Tere Naam was praised for its emotional intensity.

The action thriller Wanted revitalized Khan's film career in 2009. In Dabangg the following year, he played the fearless police officer Chulbul Pandey, a role that became central to his public image. The film was produced by his brother Arbaaz Khan and won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Khan then led a run of commercially successful films, including Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sultan, and Tiger Zinda Hai. He worked with Katrina Kaif in the Tiger films, playing Indian intelligence officer Avinash Singh Rathore. Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan were among the defining successes of this period.

His later film credits include Bharat, Dabangg 3, Radhe, Antim: The Final Truth, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, and Tiger 3. He also made a cameo appearance as Tiger in Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and appeared in Singham Again and Baby John.

Khan hosted the game show 10 Ka Dum in 2008 and 2009, winning the Best Anchor Award for both seasons. He began hosting Bigg Boss with its fourth season in 2010 and continued as the presenter in subsequent seasons. His work on the show became one of his most recognisable television roles.

In 2007, Khan founded Being Human, a charitable trust supporting education and healthcare initiatives for underprivileged communities. He launched Being Human Clothing in 2012 to help finance the foundation. In 2011 he established SKBH Productions, followed by Salman Khan Films in 2014 as a production and distribution company.

His production credits include Chillar Party, Dr. Cabbie, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hero, Tubelight, Race 3, Loveyatri, Notebook, Bharat, Dabangg 3, Kaagaz, Radhe, Antim: The Final Truth, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Farrey, and Sikandar. Chillar Party won three National Film Awards.

Khan's career has included several major legal controversies. In the 2002 hit-and-run case, he was convicted of culpable homicide in 2015 and sentenced to five years in prison. The Bombay High Court suspended the sentence, and he was acquitted later that year because of insufficient evidence.

The 1998 blackbuck hunting case began while Khan was filming Hum Saath-Saath Hain in Rajasthan. He was acquitted in two related poaching cases in 2016 and in an Arms Act case in 2017, but was convicted in the blackbuck case in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison. He was released on bail while appealing the sentence.

Khan also drew public criticism for comments about the 26/11 attacks and for a 2016 remark comparing the physical demands of filming Sultan to the experience of a raped woman. He apologised for the 26/11 comments, while the latter remark prompted condemnation and a notice from India's National Commission for Women.
