Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has been married to Gauri Khan since October 25, 1991. They have three children, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan.

His parents were Meer Mohammed Taj Khan and Lateef Fatima Khan. Both died before he entered the film industry, an experience he has described as a major motivation to work hard. Khan moved from Delhi to Mumbai in 1991 to pursue acting full time.

Khan studied theatre arts and drama during college and trained under theatre director Barry John at Delhi's Theatre Action Group. He also attended Jamia Millia Islamia University to study mass communications, but later left the program.

His television debut came with the serial Fauji, in which he played Commando Abhimanyu Rai. The role brought him widespread recognition. He subsequently appeared in Circus, Idiot, In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones and other television productions before moving into Hindi cinema.

Khan's intended film debut was Dil Aashna Hai, but production delays meant that Deewana became his first released feature in 1992. He played a second lead alongside Rishi Kapoor, and the film's success earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Early in his film career, Khan attracted attention for unconventional negative and anti-hero roles in Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam. His performance in Baazigar earned him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He later became especially associated with romantic leading roles in films including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

His later acclaimed performances included Devdas, Swades, Chak De! India and My Name Is Khan. He also appeared in action and thriller films such as Don 2, Ra.One, Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He co-starred with Aishwarya Bachchan in four films, including Devdas and Shakthi: The Power.

In addition to acting, Khan has produced films and television projects through Dreamz Unlimited and Red Chillies Entertainment. He is also an owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders alongside actress Juhi Chawla and her husband, Jay Mehta.

Khan received the Padma Shri from the Government of India in 2005 and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France in 2007. He received UNESCO's Pyramide con Marni award in 2011 and France's Legion of Honour in 2014. He has earned 14 Filmfare Awards.

His social work has included supporting people affected by AIDS and cancer, helping create a children's ward at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai in memory of his mother, and contributing to disaster-relief efforts. Through the NDTV Greenathon, he adopted villages in Bhitarkanika National Park for a solar electrification initiative. He also collaborated with artist M. F. Husain on a charity artwork celebrating India's independence.
