Matthew Lawrence

Lawrence was married to professional dancer Cheryl Burke from May 23, 2019, until their divorce was finalized on September 19, 2022. He had previously been engaged to actress Heidi Mueller from 2004 to 2006 and dated Boy Meets World co-star Danielle Fishel and dancer Cheryl Burke at earlier points.

Lawrence has been dating singer Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas since late 2022. The couple later worked together as co-hosts of the Hallmark project Second Chance Love.

Lawrence began performing as a child after accompanying his mother and older brother Joey to singing, dancing, commercial auditions and lessons in New York City. He booked two national commercials at age four and began acting in the mid-1980s, including a role as Danny Carrington on Dynasty. His family later moved to Los Angeles, where he continued working while attending high school and the University of Southern California, studying biology and the sciences.

His breakthrough came with the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire, in which he played Chris Hillard opposite Robin Williams and Sally Field. He followed it with television and film roles including Michael Samuel “Sam” Collins on Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, Billy in The Hot Chick, Victor in Cheats and Lance Truman in The Comebacks. He also voiced Tombo in the 1998 Disney English dub of Kiki’s Delivery Service.

From 1997 to 2000, Lawrence played Jack Hunter on the ABC sitcom Boy Meets World. The role became one of his best-known television performances, and he returned as Jack Hunter in the second season of the sequel series Girl Meets World in 2015. He also appeared with former co-star Will Friedle in the sequel series and was described as good friends with Ben Savage, another former Boy Meets World cast member.

Lawrence starred in Brotherly Love from 1995 to 1997 as Matt Roman, appearing alongside his real-life brothers Joey Lawrence and Andrew Lawrence. He later guest-starred on Joey’s sitcom Melissa & Joey between 2011 and 2014.

Lawrence made his singing debut with Joey at the 1986 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and also performed at the parade in 1991. He sang and played guitar during several television appearances, including episodes of Gimme a Break!, Brotherly Love and Boy Meets World. In the 2021 film Mistletoe Mixup, he performed “O Holy Night” with Joey and Andrew.

In 2017, Lawrence formed the band Still Three with Joey and Andrew. The group released the debut single “Lose Myself.” The three brothers later launched the Brotherly Love podcast in 2023, built around rewatching their sitcom.

Lawrence competed as the character Paparazzo on the thirteenth season of The Masked Singer in 2025. He also co-created the graphic novel The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency with Joey and Andrew Lawrence and writers Ben Berkowitz and Max Berkowitz. The project reimagines the brothers as fictional detectives and is scheduled for publication by Z2 Comics.
