Ethan Suplee

Suplee married Brandy Lewis in 2006. Lewis is the younger sister of actress Juliette Lewis. The couple has four daughters: Francis, Billie, Lily, and Bella. Suplee is a Scientologist.

For decades, his body weight fluctuated drastically. At his heaviest, Suplee weighed 530 pounds. He dropped down to 220 pounds and achieved 9 percent body fat through cycling and structured dieting. The drop had unexpected professional consequences. Roles dried up. Suplee deliberately regained some weight to secure character parts again, later finding a steady balance through strength training and nutrition.

Suplee grew up in an acting family. His parents, Bill Suplee and Debbie Deeble, performed on Broadway and met during summer stock theater. At age 14, Suplee dropped out of school. Childhood friend Giovanni Ribisi encouraged him to take acting classes. At 16, Suplee landed the recurring role of reluctant bully Frankie "The Enforcer" Stechino on the ABC sitcom Boy Meets World.

In 1995, director Kevin Smith cast Suplee as Willam Black in the comedy Mallrats. His character spent the film attempting to spot an image in a magic eye poster. The part established a long creative relationship with Smith. Suplee soon appeared as a comic book fan in Chasing Amy and provided the voice of Noman the Golgothan in Dogma. He later made cameo appearances in Clerks II and Clerks III.

Suplee shifted to dramatic material in 1998 with Tony Kaye's American History X. He played Seth Ryan, an aggressive white supremacist eager to pull Edward Norton's character back into the neo-Nazi movement.

Two years later, Suplee appeared in Disney's high school football drama Remember the Titans. He portrayed offensive lineman Louie Lastik, earning critical praise for his performance. The role led to further studio castings. He played Johnny Depp's drug-dealing partner Tuna in Blow, a hospital guard in John Q, and the gentle-hearted soldier Pangle in Cold Mountain. Other credits in this period included the comedies Road Trip and Without a Paddle, as well as the thriller The Butterfly Effect.

In 2005, Suplee reunited with his Mallrats co-star Jason Lee on the comedy series My Name Is Earl. Suplee played Randy Hickey, the well-meaning and gullible younger brother who helps Earl correct his past mistakes. His father, Bill Suplee, appeared on the show as Willie the One Eyed Mailman. The series ran for 96 episodes across four seasons. Suplee earned nominations from the Monte-Carlo Television Festival and the Screen Actors Guild during its run.

Following the sitcom, Suplee took on recurring and regular roles in series such as Jennifer Falls, Hulu's psychological thriller Chance, and the Netflix sitcom The Ranch. In 2020, he launched the podcast American Glutton. On the show, Suplee discusses the psychological and physical challenges of diet culture, interviewing experts and sharing his personal fitness insights. He also provided the voice, motion capture, and likeness for Robert Hackett in the 2022 horror video game The Quarry.
