Laura Linney

Laura Linney married actor David Adkins in 1995, and they divorced in 2000. She married Marc Schauer in May 2009 after becoming engaged to him in 2007.

Linney and Schauer have one son, Bennett Armistead Schauer, who was born in January 2014, shortly before Linney's 50th birthday. Actor Liam Neeson walked Linney down the aisle at her wedding to Schauer.

Linney grew up in a theatrical family. Her father, Romulus Linney, was a playwright and professor, and she began working with a local theatre group during summers in New Hampshire when she was 11. She studied at Brown University, graduating in 1986, and later trained at the Juilliard School.

She made her New York stage debut in 1990 as Nina in an Off-Broadway adaptation of The Seagull. Her stage work has included Hedda Gabler, The Crucible, Sight Unseen, Time Stands Still, The Little Foxes, and My Name Is Lucy Barton. She received Tony Award nominations for The Crucible, Sight Unseen, Time Stands Still, The Little Foxes, and My Name Is Lucy Barton, winning a Drama Desk Award for her solo performance in the last production.

Linney began appearing in films with small roles in Lorenzo's Oil and Dave. Her breakthrough came with Primal Fear in 1996, followed by prominent roles in Absolute Power and The Truman Show. In The Truman Show, she played Meryl Burbank, the on-screen wife of Jim Carrey's character.

Her performance as Sammy Prescott, a single mother in You Can Count on Me (2000), earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She received further Oscar nominations for playing Clara McMillen in Kinsey (2004) and Wendy Savage in The Savages (2007). Other notable film credits include Mystic River, Love Actually, The Squid and the Whale, Hyde Park on Hudson, Mr. Holmes, Sully, and Nocturnal Animals.

Linney first played Mary Ann Singleton in the 1993 television adaptation of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City. She reprised the role in More Tales of the City, Further Tales of the City, and the 2019 Netflix miniseries. She also played Charlotte, the final love interest of Kelsey Grammer's character on Frasier.

From 2010 to 2013, Linney starred as Cathy Jamison in Showtime's cancer dramedy The Big C, serving as both an actress and executive producer. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. She later played Wendy Byrde, the wife of a money launderer working for a drug cartel, in Netflix's Ozark from 2017 to 2022. Linney made her television directing debut with an episode of Ozark's final season.

Linney has won four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Her Emmy wins recognized her performances in Wild Iris, Frasier, John Adams, and The Big C.

Her performance as Abigail Adams in the HBO miniseries John Adams earned her another Emmy Award. She has also received nominations for three Academy Awards and a BAFTA Award, reflecting a career spanning film, television, and the stage.
