Kevin Bacon

Kevin Bacon has been married to actress Kyra Sedgwick since September 4, 1988. They met while working on the production of Lemon Sky and have two children, Travis and Sosie Bacon.

Bacon and Sedgwick have appeared together in Pyrates, Murder in the First, The Woodsman, and Cavedweller. He directed Sedgwick in the film Loverboy and in four episodes of The Closer, the television series in which she starred.

Bacon began performing in Philadelphia before studying at the Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York City. His first feature-film role was the strict ROTC cadet Chip Diller in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978). He also appeared in the soap operas Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light, as well as off-Broadway productions.

In 1982, Bacon won an Obie Award for his performance in Forty Deuce. His role as Timothy Fenwick in Barry Levinson's Diner helped establish him as a film actor, and his breakthrough came two years later with Footloose. He played Ren McCormack, a teenager who challenges a small town's ban on rock music and dancing, and prepared for the role by observing students at a high school.

After Footloose, Bacon appeared in films including Quicksilver, She's Having a Baby, The Big Picture, Flatliners, and Tremors. He increasingly moved toward complex supporting roles, including Willie O'Keefe in JFK and a prosecutor in A Few Good Men. His performance in The River Wild earned a Golden Globe nomination, while his portrayal of Henri Young in Murder in the First won a Critics Choice Award. He also played astronaut Jack Swigert in Apollo 13.

Bacon received critical recognition for Mystic River and The Woodsman, and later appeared in Beauty Shop, Frost/Nixon, Crazy, Stupid, Love., X-Men: First Class, Black Mass, and Patriots Day. For Taking Chance, in which he portrayed Marine officer Michael Strobl, he won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

His television roles included Ryan Hardy in The Following, Dick in I Love Dick, and Jackie Rohr in City on a Hill. He also played himself in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. As a director, Bacon made the television film Losing Chase, the feature film Loverboy, and episodes of The Closer and City on a Hill.

Bacon has performed music with his brother Michael Bacon since childhood. They formed the Bacon Brothers, a band whose style combines folk, rock, soul, and country influences, which they call "Forosoco" music. Kevin Bacon sings and plays guitar, percussion, and harmonica, while the band has recorded albums and toured extensively.

Bacon's numerous screen collaborations led students at Albright College to create the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game in 1994. Players connect an actor to Bacon through films featuring shared co-stars, with the number of links known as the Bacon Number. Bacon initially disliked the association but later embraced it and launched SixDegrees.org, an online charitable initiative, in 2007.

Bacon received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003. His other honors include an Obie Award, a Golden Globe for Taking Chance, a Critics Choice Award for Murder in the First, and a Saturn Award for The Following.
