Kevin Perez was born on April 20, 2003, in New York City. He grew up in the Bronx, an environment he described as dangerous, and is of Puerto Rican and Dominican heritage. He was drawn to Brooklyn drill and the music of Chicago rapper King Von during his teenage years.

Perez initially considered fashion design and also played baseball and basketball. His friends B Lovee and Dougie B introduced him to recording in 2020, helping direct his interests toward music.

Career

Kay Flock began releasing music in 2020 with the single "FTO." His early releases included "Opp Spotter" with B-Lovee, "Brotherly Love" with B-Lovee and Dougie B, and "PSA." His energetic delivery and Bronx drill sound helped him build a local following and attract attention beyond New York.

He released The D.O.A. Tape on November 5, 2021. The mixtape reached number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, while songs such as "Being Honest" and "Is Ya Ready" received critical recognition and later earned gold certifications. In November 2021, Billboard named him its Hip Hop Rookie of the Month.

In 2023, Perez and seven others were federally indicted on racketeering charges connected to the Sevside/DOA crew. The case also included attempted murder allegations and a federal murder charge. The United States government later withdrew its request for the death penalty.

On March 20, 2025, Perez was convicted of attempted murder and racketeering charges and acquitted of Hernandez's murder after the jury accepted his self-defense claim. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in December 2025.
