Jimin

Park Ji-min was born on October 13, 1995, in the Geumjeong District of Busan, South Korea. Growing up with his parents and younger brother, Park Ji-hyun, he developed an interest in performance at a young age. While attending Yonsan Middle School, he trained at the Just Dance Academy, where he practiced popping and locking.

He continued his arts education at Busan High School of Arts, where he stood out as a top student in the modern dance department. Encouraged by a dance instructor to audition for an entertainment agency, he tried out for Big Hit Entertainment in 2012. After passing the audition, he moved to Seoul, transferred to Korean Arts High School, and graduated in 2014. He later earned a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University in August 2020, receiving the institution's highest honor, the President's Award.

Jimin was the final member added to the lineup of BTS, debuting on June 13, 2013, after a six-month training period. Serving as a lead vocalist and dancer, he contributed to the group's global ascent and released several acclaimed solo tracks under the BTS banner. His 2016 solo song "Lie", featured on the studio album Wings, showcased dramatic vocal expression, while the 2017 track "Serendipity" from Love Yourself: Her adopted a softer, romantic tone.

His solo offerings consistently broke international milestones. In 2020, his Latin-influenced track "Filter" from Map of the Soul: 7 debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87 and spent 80 weeks on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. For his cultural impact alongside his bandmates, the South Korean government awarded him the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit in 2018 and appointed him a Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture in 2021.

Jimin made his initial credited solo step outside of group albums on December 30, 2018, releasing the self-composed acoustic ballad "Promise" on SoundCloud. The track broke the platform's record for the biggest 24-hour debut with 8.5 million streams and eventually surpassed 300 million plays. In 2022, he partnered with Ha Sung-woon for the collaborative duet "With You", recorded for the television drama series Our Blues.

His official solo career expanded significantly in 2023 when he featured on Taeyang's single "Vibe" and released his debut solo album, Face, on March 24. Face reached number two on the Billboard 200, making him the highest-charting Korean solo artist in the chart's history at that time. The album's main single, "Like Crazy", debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making Jimin the first South Korean solo artist to reach the top of the chart. He followed this in July 2024 with his second solo studio album, Muse, anchored by the international hit single "Who".

Recognized for his high vocal register and fluid contemporary dance technique, Jimin has been cited as a primary influence by numerous younger performers across the K-pop industry. His choreography often incorporates modern dance, acrobatics, and martial arts movements learned during his youth, earning him praise for dramatic stage presence.

Beyond music, Jimin has served as a global house ambassador for fashion brands Dior and Tiffany & Co. His cultural visibility has also extended to diverse media projects, including the Disney+ travel reality series Are You Sure?!, filmed alongside bandmate Jung Kook.

Jimin has frequently donated to educational and humanitarian causes throughout South Korea. Starting in 2016, he covered uniform expenses for students at his former elementary school, Busan Hodong Elementary, before its closure. Since 2019, he has donated ₩100 million sums to several provincial education offices, including Busan, Jeonnam, Gangwon, North Chungcheong, South Gyeongsang, and Jeonbuk, establishing scholarship funds for disadvantaged students.

His broader charity contributions include a ₩100 million donation to Rotary International in 2021 to assist polio patients, earning him induction into the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation's Green Noble Club. He has also directed substantial relief funds to the Korean UNICEF Committee for earthquake recovery in Turkey and Syria, as well as contributions supporting Korean military families, regional welfare projects in Busan, and wildfire disaster relief.

In compliance with South Korea's mandatory military service laws, Jimin enlisted as an active-duty soldier on December 12, 2023, entering the Army 5th Division Recruit Training Center in Yeoncheon alongside Jung Kook. During basic training, he finished first among his peers, earning the Best Trainee commendation award from his division commander.

Following basic training, Jimin was assigned to an artillery unit within the 5th Infantry Division. During his service, he was selected as a Special Class Warrior and received an early promotion for exemplary military conduct before his formal discharge in June 2025.
