Jalen Hurts

Hurts married his college partner, Bryonna "Bry" Rivera Burrows, in 2025. He grew up in a football household alongside his older brother, Averion, and younger sister, Kynnedy. His brother played quarterback for Texas Southern University before entering coaching. Hurts is also the godfather to the daughter of wide receiver A. J. Brown.

Off the field, Hurts employs an all-female management team overseeing his communications, marketing, and agent representation. He established the Jalen Hurts Foundation in 2024, funding youth development and school climate control projects across Philadelphia. In 2025, Time named him to the Time 100 list of the world's most influential people. He also serves as a global ambassador for flag football ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Hurts played football at Channelview High School outside Houston, Texas. His father, Averion Hurts, served as the varsity head coach throughout his prep career. During his senior year, Hurts threw for 26 touchdowns and rushed for 25 more. He earned district MVP honors twice.

Strength training shaped his early athletic career. Hurts competed in regional powerlifting meets in high school, squatting 500 pounds as a sophomore in the 198-pound weight division. Rated a four-star dual-threat recruit, he committed to the University of Alabama in June 2015.

Hurts enrolled early at Alabama in 2016. He won the starting quarterback role in his second game, becoming the first true freshman to start under center for the program since 1984. He produced 36 total touchdowns that season, won SEC Offensive Player of the Year honors, and guided the Crimson Tide to the national championship game.

During the 2017 season, Hurts led Alabama back to the title game against Georgia. Benched at halftime with Alabama trailing, he watched freshman Tua Tagovailoa direct an overtime comeback. Hurts served as the backup in 2018. When Tagovailoa was injured during the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, Hurts entered in the fourth quarter and led two late scoring drives to secure the conference title.

After completing his undergraduate degree in communication and information sciences, Hurts joined Oklahoma as a graduate transfer for 2019. He posted 3,851 passing yards and 32 touchdowns while adding 1,298 yards and 20 scores on the ground. He finished second in Heisman Trophy voting behind Joe Burrow and led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Philadelphia selected Hurts 53rd overall in the 2020 NFL draft. He stepped in as the starter in Week 14 against New Orleans, recording a passing touchdown and 106 rushing yards in a 24-21 win. Head coach Nick Sirianni named him the starter ahead of the 2021 season, and Hurts led the Eagles back to the playoffs.

In 2022, Hurts went 14-1 as a regular-season starter, totaled 35 touchdowns, and earned second-team All-Pro recognition. In Super Bowl LVII, he accumulated 374 total yards and scored three rushing touchdowns, though Philadelphia lost to the Chiefs 38-35. The following season, Hurts tied the NFL single-season record for quarterbacks with 15 rushing touchdowns.

Hurts led Philadelphia to a title in Super Bowl LIX. Facing Kansas City in a rematch, he threw two touchdowns and ran for 72 yards, setting a Super Bowl record for quarterback rushing yardage in a 40-22 victory. The performance earned him the Super Bowl MVP award.
