Henry Ruggs III

Ruggs became a father in May 2020, when his first daughter was born. His mother, Nataki Ruggs, has spoken publicly about her son while expressing condolences to the family of the crash victim.

Ruggs' daughter was born shortly before he began his first NFL season with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Ruggs played three seasons for the Alabama Crimson Tide after attending Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery. He finished his Alabama career ranked third on the school's career touchdown receptions list with 24. In 2019, he recorded 40 receptions for 746 yards and seven touchdowns, along with a 75-yard rushing touchdown and 286 kickoff-return yards.

His 2018 season included 46 receptions for 741 yards and 11 touchdowns, with the touchdown total tying for second in the Southeastern Conference. As a freshman in 2017, he made the All-SEC Freshman team after catching 12 passes for 229 yards and six touchdowns. He also contributed as a kickoff and punt returner and earned special teams recognition from Alabama coaches.

Ruggs was a five-star high-school prospect and participated in the U.S. Army All-American Game. He did not begin playing football until his junior year of high school, having also played basketball and run track.

The Las Vegas Raiders selected Ruggs 12th overall in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He joined the Raiders as a wide receiver and became teammates with quarterback Derek Carr.

Ruggs was the fastest player at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine, recording a 4.27-second 40-yard dash. His NFL career ended after the fatal crash in Las Vegas in November 2021.

Ruggs pleaded guilty to felony DUI in connection with the November 2021 Las Vegas crash that killed a woman and her golden retriever. He received a prison sentence of three to 10 years.

He earned a bachelor's degree in commerce and business administration from the University of Alabama while serving his sentence in a Nevada prison. He completed the semester with a 4.0 GPA and is eligible for parole in August 2026.
