Frankie Jonas is an American actor and singer known for voicing Sōsuke in Ponyo and co-hosting ABC’s Claim to Fame. He first became known as the youngest brother of Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas, later developing a solo music career and performing with Franklin Jonas & The Byzantines.

Personal life

Frankie Jonas is the youngest son of Denise Jonas and Paul Kevin Jonas Sr. His older brothers are Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas, who form the Jonas Brothers. He grew up alongside the band while they became prominent in music and television, and he has described himself as a major fan of their work.

Jonas was often called the “Bonus Jonas,” a nickname he has said was hurtful. After he explained how the name affected him, Joe Jonas said that the brothers had apologized and agreed to respect his wishes. In a March 2021 interview, Frankie also discussed suicidal thoughts, alcoholism, and his struggle toward sobriety.

Child acting and Claim to Fame

Jonas began acting as a child, voicing Sōsuke in the English-language version of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated film Ponyo. He also performed the film’s theme song with Noah Cyrus. His other early credits included the Disney Channel series Jonas, in which he played Frankie Lucas, and the film Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, where he appeared as Junior Rocker Trevor.

For his role in Jonas, Jonas won the 2009 Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Breakout Star, Male. He later appeared in projects including Spooky Buddies, The Reef 2: High Tide, Gutsy Frog, and the Jonas Brothers documentaries and concert films. He has co-hosted ABC’s reality game show Claim to Fame with Kevin Jonas since 2022, and also appeared on Kevin and Danielle Jonas’s reality series Married to Jonas.

Education and audio engineering

After spending most of his teenage years in Texas and attending Carroll Senior High School, Jonas studied film at Belmont University in Nashville. He later continued his education at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and graduated from Nashville’s Blackbird Academy in 2019 with a certificate in audio engineering.

Following his studies at Blackbird Academy, Jonas moved to Los Angeles to begin working as a studio engineer. He also took virtual astrophysics and academic writing classes at Columbia University beginning in 2020.

Solo music career

Jonas began sharing music on SoundCloud with the tracks “Shanghai Noon” in 2017 and “Appa” the following year. He produced Alli Haber’s song “Too Young” in 2019. His debut single as Franklin Jonas, “Cocaine,” was released in February 2023, followed by “Hoboken” in April.

Jonas made his live performance debut at Stagecoach Festival in April 2023. His debut extended play, Sewer Rat, was released in June 2023 and included “Cocaine,” “Hoboken,” and three additional songs. The Jonas Brothers publicly congratulated him on the EP, and he thanked them for inspiring him.

Franklin Jonas & The Byzantines

Since 2025, Jonas has performed as the vocalist of Franklin Jonas & The Byzantines. The band features guitarist Tim Bruns and banjo player Aidan Harbeson, and released the singles “Village Liquors,” “Road Soda,” and “Break the Levee” in 2025.

The group later released “High and Sad,” including a version featuring guest vocals from Noah Cyrus. Franklin Jonas & The Byzantines opened for the Jonas Brothers on the 2025 Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour and for Hunter Hayes, The Maine, and Nick Jonas on their 2026 tours.

TikTok and agency signing

Jonas built an independent audience through TikTok videos centered on comedy and mental health. He has said that the platform allowed him to present himself more authentically and separate his public identity from his brothers’ fame.

His viral TikTok presence helped him sign with United Talent Agency in March 2021. UTA also represents Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas.
