Colin Jost

Jost has been married to actress Scarlett Johansson since October 2020. They have a son, Cosmo Jost, born in 2021, and Jost is stepfather to Johansson's daughter from a previous marriage.

Jost and Johansson appeared together in the 2024 comedy film Fly Me to the Moon. In 2023, Jost and fellow Staten Island native Pete Davidson purchased the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry boat MV John F. Kennedy, which was later used in the film Screamboat.

Jost joined the writing staff of NBC's Saturday Night Live in 2005, when he was 22. He became the show's writing supervisor from 2009 to 2012, served as co-head writer from 2012 to 2015, and returned as a co-head writer from 2017 to 2022. His writing partners during different periods included Rob Klein, Bryan Tucker, Kent Sublette, and Michael Che.

On March 1, 2014, Jost became co-anchor of "Weekend Update," replacing Seth Meyers. He was initially paired with Cecily Strong, who was replaced by Michael Che in September 2014. Jost and Che became known for exchanging jokes written for each other without previewing them, including their recurring "joke swap" segments.

In October 2021, Jost made his 155th appearance on "Weekend Update," surpassing Meyers's record for the segment. He has also portrayed Pete Buttigieg, Roger Goodell, Ohio governor John Kasich, and Pete Hegseth in Saturday Night Live sketches.

Jost attended Regis High School in Manhattan, where he edited the school newspaper and participated in speech and debate. He traveled to school from Staten Island by bus, ferry, and subway, a journey that took about 90 minutes.

He studied history and literature at Harvard University and graduated in 2004. At Harvard, he wrote for The Harvard Crimson, became president of The Harvard Lampoon, and wrote his senior thesis on Vladimir Nabokov. During his freshman year, he lived in the same Harvard residence as Pete Buttigieg.

After college, Jost worked as a reporter and copy editor for the Staten Island Advance. He also wrote for the Nickelodeon animated series Kappa Mikey before submitting a writing packet to Saturday Night Live.

Jost has performed stand-up on programs including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, TBS, HBO, and John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show. He was selected as a New Face at the Just for Laughs festival in Montréal in 2009 and later appeared at Just for Laughs events in Chicago and Montréal.

He wrote the screenplay for and played Officer Greg Callahan in the 2015 comedy Staten Island Summer. His other acting credits include How to Be Single, Tom & Jerry, Coming 2 America, The Pole, and Fly Me to the Moon. He also hosted the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards with Michael Che and the 2024 White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

In 2020, Jost published the memoir A Very Punchable Face, which appeared on The New York Times bestseller list. He became the host of the game show Pop Culture Jeopardy! in 2024.

Jost has received Writers Guild of America Awards for his work on Saturday Night Live, including awards in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2017, and 2018. The Saturday Night Live team also won Peabody Awards for political satire in 2008 and 2017.

Jost served as an NBC Sports correspondent for surfing at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Tahiti. He returned home for medical treatment after cutting his foot on a reef and suffering multiple infections.
