Scarlett Johansson

Johansson has been married three times. She married Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in September 2008 in British Columbia. The couple separated in 2010 and finalized their divorce in July 2011. In October 2014, she married French journalist and art dealer Romain Dauriac in Montana, shortly after the birth of their daughter, Rose. That marriage ended in divorce in September 2017.

She began dating comedian and Saturday Night Live writer Colin Jost in 2017. They first crossed paths on the show in 2006. The pair married in a private ceremony in October 2020. In August 2021, they had a son named Cosmo.

Johansson grew up in Manhattan in a creative household. Her father, Karsten Johansson, is a Danish architect, and her mother, Melanie Sloan, worked as a producer. She has a twin brother named Hunter, an older brother named Adrian, an older sister named Vanessa, an older half-brother named Christian, and a younger adopted sister named Fenan.

Johansson took an early interest in performance. By age seven, she was auditioning for commercials. She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and later attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan. Her stage debut came at age eight in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry, alongside Ethan Hawke.

Screen work arrived quickly. She made her feature film debut at age nine in Rob Reiner's comedy North (1994). Director Woody Allen cast her across three films: Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006), and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). She also starred in The Island (2005), The Black Dahlia (2006), and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008).

Johansson made her Broadway debut in 2010. She played Catherine in Arthur Miller's drama A View from the Bridge, performing alongside Liev Schreiber. The run earned her a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. In 2013, she returned to Broadway as Maggie in Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

In 2010, Johansson joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, in Iron Man 2. The superhero role defined the next decade of her screen career. She reprised the part in The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The character received a standalone prequel film with Black Widow in 2021. Outside the Marvel franchise, she starred in Luc Besson's sci-fi action film Lucy (2014) and took voice roles such as the operating system Samantha in Spike Jonze's Her (2013).

In 2019, Johansson earned two Academy Award nominations simultaneously. She was nominated for Best Actress for her performance as Nicole in Noah Baumbach's divorce drama Marriage Story, starring alongside Adam Driver. She also received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for playing Rosie Betzler, a mother hiding a Jewish girl in Nazi Germany, in Taika Waititi's satire Jojo Rabbit.

Her later projects included collaborations with Wes Anderson on Asteroid City (2023) and The Phoenician Scheme (2025). She starred opposite Channing Tatum in Fly Me to the Moon (2024) and led Jurassic World Rebirth (2025). That same year, she made her feature directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb.

Beyond acting, Johansson released music through several collaborative and solo records. In May 2008, she released her debut studio album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, consisting almost entirely of Tom Waits covers.

In 2009, she partnered with singer-songwriter Pete Yorn to record Break Up, an album of duets. The duo reunited in 2018 to release the EP Apart. In 2015, she briefly formed a pop group called the Singles, releasing the track "Candy" before the group dissolved.
