Victoria Beckham

Victoria Caroline Adams was born in Harlow, Essex, and raised in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire. Her mother, Jacqueline Doreen Adams, worked as an insurance clerk and hairdresser, while her father, Anthony William Adams, was an electronics engineer. Her parents later founded an electronics wholesale business, and Victoria grew up with her younger sister Louise and younger brother Christian.

After watching the musical film Fame in 1980, Beckham decided to pursue a career in music. She studied at Jason Theatre School and later attended Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, where she focused on dance and modelling. She also joined a band called Persuasion before answering a 1994 casting advertisement in The Stage.

In 1994, Beckham was selected to join the all-female group that became the Spice Girls. The other members were Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton. The group’s debut single, “Wannabe,” reached number one in the United Kingdom, the United States and numerous other countries, while the album Spice became an international bestseller.

The media gave each member a distinctive nickname, and Beckham became Posh Spice. The group released the albums Spice, Spiceworld and Forever, and appeared in the 1997 film Spice World. After the group’s initial run ended, Beckham began a solo career. Her self-titled 2001 album reached number 10 on the UK Albums Chart and produced the UK top-ten singles “Not Such an Innocent Girl” and “A Mind of Its Own.”

Beckham later recorded material for two planned albums, Open Your Eyes and Come Together, but both projects were cancelled after Telstar Records entered bankruptcy. The Spice Girls reunited for concerts in 2007 and 2008, performed at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony and returned for a 2019 tour without Beckham, who chose to concentrate on fashion.

Beckham began developing her fashion career through collaborations and capsule collections. She designed the VB Rocks denim line for Rock & Republic, launched dVb denim and eyewear, appeared on the runway for Roberto Cavalli and worked with brands including Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs. Her fashion work also included appearances in international editions of Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar.

She launched the Victoria Beckham label in September 2008. Initially known for fitted dresses, the brand later expanded into separates, handbags, denim, eyewear and fragrance. A lower-priced line, Victoria by Victoria Beckham, followed in 2011. That year, she won Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. The collection was later presented at London Fashion Week, and her brand announced that its collections would be fur-free and free of exotic skins.

In September 2019, Beckham co-founded Victoria Beckham Beauty with Sarah Creal. The brand began with eye makeup, including eyeliners and eyeshadow palettes, and soon expanded into lip products. Its beauty offering later grew to include skincare and a collection of unisex fragrances.

Beckham began her relationship with footballer David Beckham in 1997, and the couple became known publicly as “Posh and Becks.” They married on 4 July 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. Their four children are sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, and daughter Harper.

The family’s life became a recurring subject of British media coverage, including the documentaries The Real Beckhams and Victoria Beckham: Coming to America. Beckham has also discussed experiencing an eating disorder in the 2025 Netflix documentary Victoria Beckham.

Beckham published her autobiography, Learning to Fly, in 2001. The book covers her childhood, time with the Spice Girls, marriage, family life and career, and became a major bestseller in Britain. In 2006, she published the fashion guide That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between, which offers advice on style and beauty.

Her television work has included the documentaries Victoria’s Secrets, Being Victoria Beckham, The Real Beckhams, Victoria: A Mile in Their Shoes and Victoria Beckham: Coming to America. She also appeared as herself in Ugly Betty and Zoolander, served as a guest judge on Project Runway, and voiced Queen Amphitrite in an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Beckham’s honours include appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2017 for services to the fashion industry. She has also worked with Save the Children, served as a patron of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and acted as an International Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS.
