Personal life

Shough has been married to Jordan Wormdahl, a former Oregon soccer player, since April 6, 2024. He proposed to her in Mexico on May 14, 2022, using an endorsement deal connected to name, image and likeness rights.

Shough is a Christian and was baptized with Mycah Pittman in 2019. He and Wormdahl announced the birth of their first child, Grayson DuBois Shough, in February 2026.

Hamilton High School and Oregon

Shough grew up in Chandler, Arizona, and attended Hamilton High School, where he became the varsity starting quarterback as a junior in 2016. He earned first-team 6A Premier League and All-Chandler Unified School District honors as a senior in 2017, along with recognition as a Semper Fidelis All-American.

A consensus four-star recruit, Shough received scholarship offers from programs including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and South Carolina before signing with Oregon. He redshirted in 2018 and served as the backup to Justin Herbert in 2019, throwing three touchdown passes in limited action.

Shough became Oregon's starter in 2020 and led the Ducks to a 5-2 record, the Pac-12 Championship and a Fiesta Bowl appearance. He completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 1,559 yards and 13 touchdowns during the shortened season, then entered the transfer portal in February 2021.

Texas Tech and Louisville comeback

Shough transferred to Texas Tech in 2021 and won the starting job for the season opener against Houston. He completed 17 of 24 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown in a 38-21 victory, but a broken collarbone later limited him to four starts.

In 2022, Shough returned from a shoulder injury and helped Texas Tech finish the season with four consecutive victories. He threw for a career-high 436 yards in an overtime win over Oklahoma and was named MVP of the Texas Bowl after producing 353 total yards, including 111 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, against Ole Miss.

A broken fibula limited him to four games in 2023. Shough transferred to Louisville for the 2024 season, started all 12 games and led the Cardinals to an 8-4 regular-season record. He threw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns, ranked among the ACC leaders in both categories and received Comeback Player of the Year recognition from the College Sports Communicators.

New Orleans Saints and 2025 rookie season

The New Orleans Saints selected Shough with the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and signed him to a four-year contract on July 21, 2025. After beginning the season behind Spencer Rattler, he made his first NFL start against the Los Angeles Rams on November 2.

Shough completed 221 of 327 passes for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions during his rookie season. He also rushed 45 times for 186 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the campaign leading rookie quarterbacks in passing yards per game, completion percentage, passer rating and wins as a starter.

Among his notable performances were a 282-yard, two-touchdown game against Carolina, a 308-yard outing against the New York Jets and a 333-yard, two-touchdown performance against Tennessee.
