Trisha Yearwood

Yearwood has been married three times. She married her first husband, Christopher Latham, in 1987, and the marriage ended in divorce in 1991. In May 1994, she married Robert Reynolds, the founding bassist for the country group The Mavericks. The couple resided in Hendersonville, Tennessee, before divorcing in October 1999.

Yearwood first met country singer Garth Brooks in the late 1980s when both were demo vocalists in Nashville. The two maintained a close professional collaboration and friendship for over a decade while married to other partners. After both went through divorces, they began dating around 2000. Brooks proposed to Yearwood onstage in front of 7,000 fans in Bakersfield, California, in 2005. The couple married on December 10, 2005, at their home in Owasso, Oklahoma.

Through her marriage to Brooks, Yearwood became a stepmother to his three daughters, Taylor, August, and Allie Colleen. The couple made a pact early in their marriage to minimize time apart, frequently touring together and sharing domestic life.

After attending Young Harris College and earning an associate degree in business, Yearwood moved to Nashville in 1985 to study music business at Belmont University. While taking classes, she interned and later worked as a full-time employee at MTM Records. She supported herself by recording song demonstration tapes for local songwriters and singing background vocals, earning between $10 and $30 per track.

Through her studio work, Yearwood met Garth Brooks and producer Garth Fundis, who helped develop her early showcase material. She sang background vocals on Brooks's 1990 breakthrough album, No Fences, and caught the attention of MCA Records producer Tony Brown during a live showcase. Brown signed her to MCA Nashville shortly afterward.

Her self-titled debut album was released in 1991. The lead single, "She's in Love with the Boy", reached number one on the Billboard country chart, making her the first woman in 27 years to score a number-one hit with a debut country single. The album achieved double-platinum status, making Yearwood the first female country artist to sell more than one million copies of a debut record. She received Top New Female Vocalist honors from the Academy of Country Music that year.

Yearwood followed her debut with Hearts in Armor (1992), an emotionally raw collection influenced by her first divorce that featured guest contributions from Don Henley, Emmylou Harris, and Raul Malo. It yielded top-ten country hits such as "Wrong Side of Memphis" and "Walkaway Joe". Her 1993 follow-up, The Song Remembers When, continued her critical success, accompanied by a major cable concert special.

In 1994, Yearwood earned her first Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for her duet with Aaron Neville on a remake of Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces".

Her commercial peak arrived with the 1997 compilation (Songbook) A Collection of Hits, which earned quadruple-platinum certification. The album featured "How Do I Live", featured in the motion picture Con Air, which earned her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. The compilation also produced the hit duet "In Another's Eyes" with Garth Brooks. In 1999, Porter Wagoner inducted Yearwood into the Grand Ole Opry, marking a milestone her family had celebrated for generations.

In 2008, Yearwood expanded her career into culinary publishing by releasing Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen, a cookbook co-authored with her mother Gwen and sister Beth Bernard. Featuring traditional family recipes, the book reached number one on The New York Times Best Seller list. She published a successful follow-up, Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood, in 2010, which also topped bestseller lists.

Her culinary success led to the Food Network television series Trisha's Southern Kitchen, which debuted in April 2012. Filmed initially in Nashville, the program showcased family traditions, Southern cooking techniques, and casual home hospitality. The series earned Yearwood a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Program in 2013 and ran for multiple seasons, establishing her as a prominent television host and lifestyle personality.

After focusing heavily on touring with Brooks and building her culinary brand, Yearwood returned to solo recording with Let's Be Frank in 2018. Recorded live with a full orchestra at the Capitol Records building, the tribute to Frank Sinatra utilized Sinatra's original microphone and peaked at number two on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.

In 2019, she issued Every Girl, her first collection of original country material in over a decade. The lead single, "Every Girl in This Town", earned the highest country radio debut of her career, and the record included guest appearances by Kelly Clarkson and Don Henley. In 2025, she released The Mirror, a deeply personal album consisting entirely of self-composed songs, followed by the holiday album Christmastime.
