Tones and I

Tones and I began dating bricklayer and footballer Jimmy Bedford in early 2020. Bedford later left his bricklaying company to work as her stage technician and touring audio engineer, and they became engaged in December 2021.

The couple married in Bali in March 2023 and separated at the end of 2025.

Tones and I learned to play keyboards and drum pads at secondary school before busking in Melbourne while working in fashion retail. After being made redundant, she bought an RC300 loop station and developed a solo act using synthesizers and a loop pedal. She later busked full time around Byron Bay and the east coast of Australia.

In September 2017, she travelled to Byron Bay, where she met music lawyer Jackson Walkden-Brown, who became her talent manager. In 2018, she won the Battle of the Buskers at Buskers by the Creek. Her first official single, "Johnny Run Away", was released in 2019 and reached number 12 on the ARIA Singles Chart.

Tones and I released "Dance Monkey" in May 2019. The song topped the charts in more than 30 countries and spent 24 weeks at number one on the Australian singles chart, surpassing Bing Crosby's record for "White Christmas". It also became the first Australian song to reach number one on Spotify's global daily chart.

Her six-track debut extended play, The Kids Are Coming, was released on 30 August 2019. It included "Dance Monkey", "Johnny Run Away" and "Never Seen the Rain", with all three songs appearing in the 2019 Triple J Hottest 100. The EP reached the top 10 in several countries and the top 30 of the Billboard 200.

Tones and I released her debut studio album, Welcome to the Madhouse, on 16 July 2021. The album debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and included the singles "Fly Away", "Won't Sleep" and "Cloudy Day". "Cloudy Day" later won the ARIA Song of the Year award.

Tones and I began developing her second album in 2022, releasing songs including "Eyes Don't Lie", "Charlie", "I Made It", "Dreaming" and "I Get High". She also collaborated with Macklemore on "Chant" and contributed music to the film True Spirit and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Her second studio album, Beautifully Ordinary, was released on 2 August 2024 and debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. She supported P!nk's Australian Summer Carnival tour in 2024 and performed at the closing ceremony of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, where her set included "Dance Monkey", "Fly Away" and "The Greatest".

Tones and I was the most awarded artist at the 2019 ARIA Music Awards, winning four awards from eight nominations. Her wins included Best Female Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Pop Release and Best Independent Release for The Kids Are Coming.

"Dance Monkey" won the Grand Prize at the 2019 International Songwriting Competition. Tones and I also won APRA awards for Song of the Year and Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year in 2020, and received the Toni Watson Songwriter Award at the 2023 Australian Women in Music Awards.

In February 2024, she became the first female artist to surpass three billion Spotify streams for a single song with "Dance Monkey".
