Personal life
Simons was raised in the Mapperley area of Nottingham by his parents, Iain and Sarah Simons. His father is a former arcade owner and founder of the GameCity festival, while his mother worked as an actor and teacher. He attended The Carlton Academy in Carlton, Nottinghamshire, before relocating to Brighton in January 2022. He grew up with two pet dogs named Betty and Walter.
Simons has spoken publicly about his mental health, discussing his experiences with clinical depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. From late 2022 until 2024, he was in a relationship with a partner named Molly.
Minecraft content and Dream SMP
Simons created his initial YouTube channel, Channelnutpig, in 2013 and launched his primary TommyInnit channel in late 2015, beginning regular uploads in September 2018. He established a substantial following by producing Minecraft content and streaming gameplay on Twitch, often featuring gaming servers like Hypixel SkyWars.
His audience expanded rapidly after he joined the private, narrative-driven Dream SMP Minecraft server in July 2020. His collaborative storylines with creators such as Dream, Wilbur Soot, and Technoblade made him one of the platform's leading personalities. On 20 January 2021, Simons streamed the server's storyline finale to a peak of more than 650,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, setting a record as the third-highest concurrent audience in the platform's history. This milestone contributed to two Guinness World Records for the most viewers of a Minecraft livestream and the most followed Minecraft channel on Twitch.
Live comedy and stand-up tours
Following an ensemble stage performance titled TommyInnit & Friends at the Brighton Dome in July 2022, Simons pursued live comedy and stand-up performance. Mentored by comedian Daniel Sloss, he began performing at open mic nights and developed touring stage productions that combined sketch comedy, music, and stand-up routines.
In June 2023, he staged his first United Kingdom tour, TommyInnit: Annoying at First, alongside fellow creators Jack Manifold and Badlinu. In 2025, he embarked on TommyInnit: The Survival Tour, performing across the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia.
Podcasting, publishing, and other media
In September 2024, Simons and Jack Manifold launched the weekly podcast Shut Up I'm Talking, hosting conversations with online creators and entertainers including DanTDM, Jacksepticeye, Jedward, and MatPat. In 2026, he introduced the interview series 100 Questions with Tom Simons, produced with Sony Pictures Television, featuring guests such as Stephen Fry, Robert Webb, and Brian Cox.
Simons has published two books. In October 2022, he co-authored TommyInnit Says... The Quote Book with Wilbur Soot, dedicating the book to late content creator Technoblade and donating all proceeds to Sarcoma UK, an effort that earned him the charity's Shining Star Award. He followed this in April 2025 with the satirical release TommyInnit's Guide to Survival. His screen appearances include a cameo in Black Mirror, an appearance as a guest panellist on the BBC public-affairs programme Question Time, and competing on Celebrity MasterChef.
