Early life and the move to YouTube

Atwood began filming and producing videos in high school. In 2006, he created a DVD series called The Nerd Herd and sold it at the Warped Tour. Before concentrating on online comedy, he worked at his family's rope factory, Atwood Rope, and worked on film projects and commercials in Columbus, Ohio.

In 2010, he created the YouTube channel Sketch Empire and shifted his focus toward comedy. His breakout video, “Cops Get Owned!!!”, was posted in March 2012. He later became known for public and hidden-camera pranks, including “Anniversary Prank Backfires!!,” “Killing My Own Kid PRANK!!,” and “INSANE Toilet Paper PRANK!!.”

RomanAtwoodVlogs and notable pranks

Atwood launched RomanAtwoodVlogs as a channel centered on family life, inspiration, comedy, and pranks. He also operated the RomanAtwood channel, which focused more heavily on prank videos and became inactive in 2016. His “Crazy Plastic Ball Prank” turned his house into a ball pit filled with plastic balls. Nissan used the video in its “WithDad” campaign during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime advertising period, and the campaign won the Brand Campaign award at the 5th Streamy Awards. Atwood also appeared with Howie Mandel's son Alex in the “INSANE Toilet Paper PRANK!!” video, which involved toilet-papering Mandel's house.

In 2016, Atwood won the Shorty Award for Best YouTube Comedian. He also received two Diamond Play Buttons for RomanAtwood and RomanAtwoodVlogs, becoming the second YouTuber to receive the distinction for two channels.

In 2016, Smile More moved into a dedicated building on the same property as Atwood's residence and expanded its staff. In 2022, Atwood announced that Smile More would move to Texas through a collaboration with Matt Carriker and Bunker Branding. He and Brittney also took part ownership of Bunker Branding.
