Margaret Qualley

Qualley was married to musician and producer Jack Antonoff from 2023 until their separation in July 2026. Antonoff is the frontman of Bleachers, and Qualley appeared in the band's music videos for "Alma Mater," "Tiny Moves," and "You and Forever." Lana Del Rey's 2023 song "Margaret," featuring Bleachers, was inspired by the couple's relationship.

Qualley is the youngest child of Andie MacDowell and Paul Qualley. She has an older sister, actress and singer Rainey Qualley, and an older brother, Justin Qualley. Her parents separated when she was five, and she divided her time between them while growing up in Montana and North Carolina.

Qualley trained in classical ballet as a child and attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a boarding student. She also studied at New York's Professional Children's School and earned an apprenticeship with the American Ballet Theatre. At 16, after being offered an apprenticeship with the North Carolina Dance Theater, she decided to leave ballet as a potential career.

Qualley began modeling to remain in New York. She made her fashion debut during New York Fashion Week in 2011, walking for Alberta Ferretti, and later modeled for Valentino and Chanel in Paris. She appeared in campaigns for Kenzo, Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, and Celine, and became a Chanel house ambassador. She later studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art's summer program in London and left New York University after one semester to pursue acting roles.

Qualley made her screen debut in Gia Coppola's 2013 film Palo Alto. She followed it with the role of Jill Garvey in the HBO series The Leftovers, appearing across its three seasons from 2014 to 2017. In the series, she played the fictional daughter of Justin Theroux's character.

Her early film work included The Nice Guys with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, the religious drama Novitiate, The Vanishing of Sidney Hall, Death Note, and Donnybrook. She also played the central figure in Spike Jonze's 2016 commercial for KENZO World, performing a dance routine that incorporated substantial improvisation.

Qualley's breakthrough came with the 2021 Netflix miniseries Maid, in which she played Alex Russell, a young mother who leaves an abusive relationship and struggles to support her child. Andie MacDowell played Alex's mother, making the production an on-screen collaboration between Qualley and her real-life mother. Qualley received nominations for a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for the role.

Qualley later appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos's Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness, playing four characters in three separate storylines in the latter film. Her other 2024 credits included Ethan Coen's Drive-Away Dolls and Coralie Fargeat's body horror film The Substance, in which she starred opposite Demi Moore and Dennis Quaid. Her performance in The Substance earned a Golden Globe nomination and wins from the Austin, Online Film Critics Society, Seattle, and Vancouver film critics groups.
