Ryan Gosling

Gosling has been in a relationship with actress Eva Mendes since 2011. They have two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, born in 2014, and Amada Lee, born in 2016.

He was previously in a relationship with his The Notebook co-star Rachel McAdams from 2005 to 2008. Gosling co-owns Tagine, a Moroccan restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.

Ryan Thomas Gosling was raised in Cornwall, Ontario, by his parents, Thomas Ray Gosling and Donna Wilson, alongside his older sister, Mandi. He began performing with Mandi at talent contests, sang at weddings, danced with a local ballet company, and performed with his uncle's Elvis Presley tribute act. His mother later homeschooled him for a year.

At age 12, Gosling auditioned in Montreal for The All-New Mickey Mouse Club and won a place after competing against 17,000 aspiring performers. He appeared on the series from 1993 to 1995 alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake. Afterward, he continued acting in television productions including Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps, Breaker High, and Young Hercules.

Gosling moved from television into film with a supporting role in Remember the Titans (2000). His performance as a Jewish neo-Nazi in The Believer (2001) brought serious critical attention, and the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He followed it with roles in Murder by Numbers, The Slaughter Rule, and The United States of Leland.

His breakthrough came with The Notebook (2004), in which he played Noah Calhoun opposite Rachel McAdams. The romantic drama became a major popular success, earned Gosling four Teen Choice Awards and an MTV Movie Award, and established him as a leading actor.

Gosling received his first Academy Award nomination for playing a drug-addicted junior-high teacher in the independent drama Half Nelson (2006). He earned further recognition for Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Blue Valentine (2010), and Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011), demonstrating a range that included intimate drama, romance, and comedy.

In Drive (2011), Gosling played an unnamed Hollywood stunt performer who works as a getaway driver. He also portrayed an ambitious press secretary in The Ides of March and a motorcycle stunt rider in The Place Beyond the Pines. His performance as Sebastian in Damien Chazelle's La La Land (2016), opposite Emma Stone, brought him a Golden Globe Award and a second Academy Award nomination. He learned to play the piano for the film and performed his filmed piano scenes himself.

Gosling played Jared Vennett in The Big Short (2015), Holland March in The Nice Guys (2016), Officer K in Blade Runner 2049 (2017), and Neil Armstrong in First Man (2018). He made his directorial debut with Lost River (2014), a fantasy film that he also wrote and produced.

After a four-year break from film, Gosling returned as the spy Six in The Gray Man (2022). He then played Ken opposite Margot Robbie in Greta Gerwig's Barbie (2023), singing “I'm Just Ken” for the film and performing it at the 96th Academy Awards. He later starred opposite Emily Blunt in The Fall Guy (2024) and played Ryland Grace in Project Hail Mary (2026).

Gosling formed the indie rock band Dead Man's Bones with Zach Shields in 2007. Their self-titled album was released in 2009, with Gosling contributing vocals, piano, guitar, bass guitar, and cello. The band toured North America and used a local children's choir at each show.

He has supported animal-welfare campaigns with PETA and humanitarian causes connected with Darfur, the Lord's Resistance Army in Central Africa, and eastern Congo. He volunteered in Biloxi, Mississippi, after Hurricane Katrina and travelled to refugee camps in Chad.
