Marcus King

Marcus King has been married to Briley Hussey since 2023. Hussey is a singer and conservative activist.

King and Hussey married on February 19, 2023, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

King grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, in a working-class family with several generations of musical experience. His grandfather played country and western music, his uncle played bass guitar in church, and his father, Marvin King, performed country, rock and roll, blues, and gospel music. Marvin King also toured nationally with his own group, Marvin King and the Blue Revival.

King began learning guitar at about three or four years old and started performing with his father at eight. At 11, he played guitar on one of his father's albums. He later described music as a family trade that was encouraged as a viable and honest way to make a living.

King began playing with his own band as a teenager while balancing club performances with school. The group developed a style that combined Southern rock with psychedelic and soul influences. King became its lead singer, guitarist, and founder, while extensive touring helped the band build its tightly coordinated live sound.

The band's lineup has included drummer Jack Ryan, bassist Stephen Campbell, trumpeter and trombonist Justin Johnson, and saxophonist Dean Mitchell. Its albums include Soul Insight from 2014, The Marcus King Band from 2016, and Carolina Confessions from 2018.

King announced his debut solo album, El Dorado, in 2019. Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys produced the album at Easy Eye Studio in Nashville, and Fantasy Records released it on January 17, 2020. The genre-blending record drew on soul, rock, and country and received a nomination for Best Americana Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

King released Young Blood on August 26, 2022, again with Auerbach as producer. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart and was ranked the 12th-best guitar album of 2022 in a Guitar World readers' poll. Later albums listed in his discography include Mood Swings, released in 2024, and Darling Blue, released in 2025.

King moved to Nashville and continued developing a career rooted in American rock, soul, blues, and Americana. He collaborated with Ashland Craft on the 2021 single "Highway Like Me" and worked with Billy Strings and Lainey Wilson on later musical projects.

He also completed a series of dates with Chris Stapleton. Stapleton called King one of his favorite artists and joined him onstage. King gained early attention in 2014 after a video of him playing at Norman's Guitars received millions of views on YouTube.
