Lydia Moynihan

Moynihan joined the New York Post as a financial reporter in April 2021 and works as a Wall Street reporter and financial correspondent. Her coverage has included corporate leaders, technology, artificial intelligence, markets, economic policy, and other business topics. She has also contributed to Fox News, CNBC, and Fox Business, and has been associated with the Insider podcast and NYNext.

Before joining the Post, Moynihan worked as a producer for financial journalist Charlie Gasparino at Fox Business Network and previously served as a production assistant there. She also interned at CNBC, Nasdaq, Washington Business Week, and KOIN-TV in Portland, Oregon, and worked as an associate at the United Nations.

Moynihan has described relationship-building as central to her reporting. She keeps an Excel spreadsheet of sources and contacts, a system first passed to her by Charlie Gasparino and later expanded as she developed more significant sources. For individual stories, she makes lists of people to contact so that important perspectives are not overlooked.

Among the business figures she has interviewed are Barry Diller, Eric Schmidt, and Bill Ackman. She has recalled that Eric Schmidt returned her message within minutes, and she has highlighted interviews with Graydon Carter as work she would recommend to new readers. Her NYNext interviews have included technology executive Alexandr Wang, Standard Bots founder Evan Beard, and hospitality entrepreneur Eugene Remm.

Moynihan attended The King's College in New York, a Christian liberal arts institution. She graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics and a minor in Business.

Her academic background connects with her later focus on financial and political reporting. She has said that she values interviews as a way to present complex subjects through the experiences and views of the people involved.

Moynihan was homeschooled with her older brother. Her mother was a teacher, and Moynihan has said that homeschooling encouraged creativity and allowed the family to spend substantial time reading history and historical fiction. Her childhood reading included works such as The Red Badge of Courage, The Scarlet Letter, and Ethan Frome.

She has also discussed the adjustment from a childhood without social media to working as a digital journalist. She described herself as feeling more like a digital immigrant than a digital native and recalled that a friend initially helped her write Instagram captions. Her interests include books, podcasts, and a book club she leads, while her religious background is rooted in evangelical Christianity.
