Alex Holley

Holley joined the FOX 29 News team in the summer of 2014 as co-host of Good Day Philadelphia, alongside Mike Jerrick. Before moving to Philadelphia, she worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor for WMBF-TV’s morning news programs in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Earlier in her career, Holley was an anchor, reporter, and producer at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri. She also anchored the multi-source news website Newsy.com, and her work was featured in a digital journalism display at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Her FOX 29 work includes “Alex Around Town,” a segment focused on popular and lesser-known places and events in the Philadelphia viewing area.

Holley received a 2015 Emmy Award nomination for coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia. In 2016, Philadelphia Magazine named her “Best TV Personality” in its “Best of Philly” issue, while the Philadelphia Pen & Pencil Club also honored her with its “Best TV Personality” distinction that year.

She was additionally recognized by NV magazine as one of its “Movers & Shakers.” In 2021, she was selected as one of the honorees for AL DÍA’s 40 Under Forty event, which highlighted diverse and impactful professionals in the Philadelphia region.

Holley has described covering the COVID-19 pandemic, racial injustice, the presidential election, vaccines, and emerging variants as a major professional challenge. She has emphasized the importance of accurate local reporting and greater diversity at every level of the news industry.

Holley graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in broadcast journalism and minors in sociology and Spanish. While at the university, she was voted Mizzou’s Homecoming Queen and was honored as a Mizzou39 member.

She created “SWIPES Make a Difference,” a community service program that enables college students to donate unused meal plans to people in need in local communities. The program continues to support food assistance efforts for college students and nearby communities.

Holley is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and volunteers with charitable organizations in the Philadelphia area. She studied Spanish at the Universidad de Salamanca at age 13, is proficient in the language, and has traveled to more than twelve countries.
