Kate Moss

Kate Moss has a daughter, Lila Grace Moss, born in 2002 during her relationship with Dazed & Confused editor Jefferson Hack. Lila also became a model. Moss was previously in a relationship with actor Johnny Depp from 1994 to 1998 and was engaged to musician Pete Doherty before they separated in 2007.

Moss married Jamie Hince, guitarist of The Kills, in 2011. They separated in 2015 and divorced in 2016.

Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Management, discovered Moss at JFK Airport in New York in 1988, when Moss was 14. Photographer Corinne Day later shot her in stark black-and-white photographs for The Face, including the 1990 series that brought her to the attention of the fashion industry. Moss's natural look, slight build, and street style contrasted with the statuesque and curvaceous image associated with leading models of the period.

Moss became known as the "anti-supermodel" and helped establish the waif look in fashion. Her Calvin Klein work made her especially prominent. She appeared in the brand's Obsession advertising campaign in 1993 and became the face of Calvin Klein's campaigns during the decade. The advertisements helped associate her with the "heroin chic" trend and prompted public debate about thinness and the depiction of youth in fashion.

Moss appeared in campaigns for major fashion houses including Dior, Chanel, Burberry, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Yves Saint Laurent. She appeared on more than 300 magazine covers and made her first appearance in British Vogue in 1993. She later became a contributing fashion editor for the magazine.

Her first clothing collection for Topshop launched in 2007, followed by a second collection for autumn and winter 2010-11. She collaborated with Longchamp on a handbag collection in 2010 after appearing in the brand's campaigns for eight seasons. Moss launched her first perfume in 2007, created a lipstick collection with Rimmel in 2011, and collaborated with Messika on jewellery in 2020.

Moss received the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Fashion Icon award in 2005 and a Special Recognition award at the British Fashion Awards in 2013. Time included her among the world's 100 most influential people in 2007.

Moss contributed tambourine and vocals to music projects associated with Oasis, including appearances on the singles "Don't Go Away" and "Fade Away" and the album Be Here Now. She also provided vocals for recordings by Primal Scream, Babyshambles, and the Lemonheads, and appeared in music videos by artists including the White Stripes, Elton John, Marianne Faithfull, Johnny Cash, and Paul McCartney.

Her screen appearances include Maid Marian and a fictional Queen of England in Blackadder: Back & Forth in 1999, as well as appearances as herself in The Boy in the Dress, Zoolander 2, and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie. In 2012, she performed with Naomi Campbell during the closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games.

Artists have also used Moss as a subject and cultural symbol. Marc Quinn created a gold sculpture of her for a British Museum exhibition, while the National Portrait Gallery in London holds seven portraits of Moss. She was included in Peter Blake's reimagining of the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover featuring prominent British cultural figures.

In September 2005, photographs published in a British newspaper showed Moss appearing to use cocaine. H&M dropped her from an autumn clothing campaign, and Burberry also ended its campaign with her. Chanel declined to renew a contract that was due to expire, while Moss apologised publicly.

British police dropped the charges in June 2006 for lack of evidence, and Moss resumed her modelling career. Within a year of the scandal, she had signed campaigns with brands including Rimmel, Calvin Klein, Burberry, Agent Provocateur, and Virgin Mobile. The episode became one of the most widely discussed controversies of her career.
