Extra Emily

Emily Xuechun Zhang was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and spent her childhood there. She was accepted into Columbia University’s financial engineering program in 2016 and joined the Tau Colony of the Asian-interest Kappa Phi Lambda sorority.

She graduated from Columbia University in 2020, completing Industrial Engineering and Operations Research with magna cum laude honors and receiving the Outstanding Student Service Award.

ExtraEmily created her Twitch account on April 20, 2020, and began streaming on May 29 of that year with Wii Sports and other Nintendo Wii games. Her friend and fellow streamer Nicro helped her early growth by frequently raiding her channel after his broadcasts. She moved from Nebraska to New York in February 2020 to focus on streaming, and clips from her broadcasts later spread widely on TikTok. She became a Twitch Partner on March 23, 2021.

Her unconventional IRL content became a defining part of her career. In 2022, a livestream showing the inside of her ear canals and belly button became a viral clip and led to an appearance on Mizkif’s game show OTK Schooled. After initially placing second, she returned to the final as a replacement competitor and was ultimately declared the champion after the original winner was disqualified for cheating. Mizkif then invited her to visit the members of One True King in Austin, Texas, an opportunity that preceded a sharp rise in her channel’s following. She left her banking job in June 2022 to stream full-time.

ExtraEmily joined One True King in January 2023 and became a co-owner of the organization’s independent video game and publishing company, Mad Mushroom, after its launch in June of that year. Her IRL projects have included a more than 10-hour wall-based sub-a-thon, an Austin skate-park kayaking stunt inspired by Jackass, and a steak-cooking challenge outside an Outback Steakhouse. She also co-hosted Always On Connected By AT&T with Emiru, with a second season announced for 2025.

In 2025, ExtraEmily served as a professor at Kai Cenat’s four-day Streamer University event. She placed seventh among the 137 participating creators by total viewership and received the “Engagement Guru” certificate. That year she also streamed an Elden Ring co-op marathon with Agent00 and a Pokémon Go IRL marathon in Hawaii with Agent00, YourRAGE, and Cinna. Her three-year One True King contract expired in January 2026, and she chose not to renew it.

ExtraEmily won the “League Of Their Own” award at The Streamer Awards in 2023. She was also nominated for Best IRL Streamer, Best Content Organization, and The Sapphire Award at the same ceremony, as well as for Esports Content Creator of the Year at the 2023 Esports Awards and Breakout Streamer at the 2023 Streamy Awards.

At the 2024 Streamer Awards, she received nominations in four categories, including Best IRL Streamer, The Sapphire Award, Best Content Organization, and Best Streamed Event. She won “Best DansGame Moment” at Nymm’s New Year Show in 2023 and won “Best Big Brain Moment” and “Best Unlucky Moment” at the 2024 edition.

She won Best Stream Duo with Agent00 at The Streamer Awards in 2025 and was also nominated for Best IRL Streamer, The Sapphire Award, and Streamer of the Year. In October 2023, she became the first streamer to have an animated emote of herself available across Twitch, with “TwitchConHYPE” created from a stream in which she buried herself in mulch inside a trash bin.
