Hannah Berner

Hannah Berner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, spending two years in Florida during her teens while training for a professional tennis career. She attended the Beacon School before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin, where she studied communication arts rhetoric and gender and women's studies.

Berner played on the University of Wisconsin tennis team and was named its most valuable player. In 2009, she attracted attention for playing on Beacon High School's boys tennis team because the school did not have a girls team. She left tennis after college rather than pursuing the professional career she had originally planned.

Her mother, Lenore DiLeo Berner, was a jazz singer and middle-school principal, while her father, Dan Berner, is a Lubin School of Business graduate. Berner has described herself as half-Italian and half-Jewish, with Jewish heritage on her father's side.

Berner began her media career as a creative video producer at Betches, where she wrote, produced, and sometimes appeared in content. She later joined Bravo's reality series Summer House, appearing in seasons three through five.

After the first season of Summer House aired, Berner began performing stand-up comedy. She also developed the street-interview series "Han on the Street," which has earned more than 350 million views and includes interviews with celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lawrence, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez, and Brad Pitt.

Her first hour-long stand-up special, We Ride at Dawn, was released on Netflix in July 2024 and premiered at number two on the platform's charts. She was named one of Variety's "Top 10 Comics to Watch" in 2023 and has headlined sold-out theater tours across North America and Europe. Her subsequent special, None of My Business, was released on Hulu in 2026.

Berner co-hosts Giggly Squad with Paige DeSorbo, her former Summer House roommate. The podcast became one of her most prominent projects, surpassing 130 million downloads and winning iHeartRadio's Podcast of the Year award.

Berner and DeSorbo also released the book How to Giggle: A Guide to Taking Life Less Seriously in 2025. The book became a New York Times bestseller, and the pair headlined two sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall in January 2025.

Berner previously hosted Berning in Hell, an interview podcast focused on guests' insecurities, anxieties, and fears. She and DeSorbo have also been developing a scripted Netflix comedy series, with Amy Poehler as producer and Kay Cannon as co-writer and showrunner.

Berner met Irish-American comedian Des Bishop after he contacted her through Instagram in July 2020. Their first coffee date lasted four hours, and Bishop proposed on Valentine's Day in 2021. They married on May 13, 2022, in a small beach ceremony at Westhampton Beach attended by family and friends, including Berner's former Summer House castmates Paige DeSorbo and Ciara Miller.

Berner and Bishop launched the joint podcast Berner Phone in August 2023. The show uses listener call-ins to discuss relationships, work, social media, dating dilemmas, and everyday advice.

Berner has discussed Bishop in her comedy, including jokes about their 15-year age gap in We Ride at Dawn. She has also credited him with helping her through the difficult period surrounding the backlash to her final season of Summer House.
