Grayson Allen

Grayson Allen was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to William Allen, a government contractor, and Sherry Allen, a human resources manager. He attended Providence School in Jacksonville before enrolling at Duke University.

While attending Duke, Allen began dating Morgan Reid, who played on the university's women's soccer team before competing professionally in the NWSL. The couple announced their engagement in February 2022 and married on July 23, 2022. In October 2024, they welcomed their first child, a daughter.

Allen played high school basketball at Providence School in Jacksonville, leading the team to a Florida 3A state championship in 2013 and a 90-10 overall record during his tenure. In 2014, he was selected as a McDonald's All-American and won the competition's slam dunk contest after leaping over future Duke teammate Jahlil Okafor.

Joining Duke University for the 2014-15 season under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, Allen played primarily as a reserve, averaging 4.4 points per game in the regular season. He emerged as a vital contributor during the 2015 NCAA tournament. In the national championship game against Wisconsin, Allen scored 16 points, including eight consecutive points when Duke trailed by nine in the second half, helping propel the Blue Devils to a 68-63 victory and the program's fifth national title.

During his sophomore season in 2015-16, Allen experienced a major offensive breakout, averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 41.7 percent from three-point range. He earned consensus first-team All-ACC honors, second-team All-America recognition from The Sporting News, and CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, becoming only the sixth player in Duke history to achieve both All-America and Academic All-America status in the same season.

His collegiate career also drew intense national attention for multiple on-court incidents. In February 2016, Allen received a reprimand from the Atlantic Coast Conference after tripping Louisville's Ray Spalding and Florida State's Xavier Rathan-Mayes in separate games. In December 2016, a tripping incident involving Elon guard Steven Santa Ana resulted in a technical foul, an indefinite team suspension by Coach Krzyzewski, and the temporary removal of his team captaincy. Allen returned after a one-game suspension.

Allen was reinstated as team captain for his senior season in 2017-18, where he averaged 15.5 points and a team-high 4.6 assists per game while leading Duke to the Elite Eight. Over his four years at Duke, Allen scored 1,996 points across 142 games, finishing 12th on the school's all-time scoring list.

The Utah Jazz selected Allen with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. In his final regular-season game as a rookie on April 10, 2019, he scored a career-high 40 points in an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. In July 2019, Utah traded Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies in a multi-player deal for Mike Conley. Across two seasons with Memphis, he developed into a reliable rotation guard and perimeter shooter, appearing in 88 regular-season games.

In August 2021, Memphis traded Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks. He started 61 games during the 2021-22 regular season, averaging 11.1 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from three-point range. During a January 2022 game against the Chicago Bulls, Allen was assessed a flagrant-two foul and ejected for a foul on Alex Caruso that resulted in Caruso suffering a fractured wrist, leading to a one-game suspension by the NBA. In the 2022 postseason, Allen responded with strong offensive play, including 22 points in Game 3 and 27 points in Game 4 of Milwaukee's first-round series win over the Bulls.

On September 27, 2023, Allen was traded to the Phoenix Suns as part of a three-team trade centered around Damian Lillard. In his first season with Phoenix, Allen started 74 games and led the entire NBA in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 46.1 percent from beyond the arc. He tied the Suns single-game record with nine three-pointers on three separate occasions during the 2023-24 season.

Allen continued his sharp shooting in subsequent seasons, breaking the Phoenix single-game record on November 10, 2025, when he converted 10 three-pointers and scored a career-high 42 points in a 121-98 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. On July 13, 2026, the Suns traded Allen and Royce O'Neale to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Miles Bridges and draft picks.
