Dylan Harper

Harper comes from a prominent basketball family. His father, Ron Harper, played 15 seasons in the NBA and won five championships. His mother, Maria Pizarro Harper, played college basketball at the University of New Orleans and coached at both DePaul Catholic and Don Bosco Prep. On his mother's side, his grandfather represented the Philippines in basque pelota at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. His older brother, Ron Harper Jr., played at Rutgers before turning professional.

Harper grew up in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. At Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, he developed into one of the top high school prospects in the country. He averaged 24.9 points per game as a junior and led the Ironmen to a state championship as a senior. Accolades accumulated quickly. He was named the Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year, the MaxPreps National Basketball Player of the Year, and co-MVP of both the McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. Together with his mother and brother, he also established Harper University, an AAU program focused on youth development.

In December 2023, Harper committed to Rutgers, turning down offers from Duke, Kansas, Indiana, and Auburn. He arrived in Piscataway as the highest-rated recruit in the program's history. He made an immediate impact.

Over 29 games with the Scarlet Knights, Harper averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. He set the Rutgers freshman scoring record with 564 points. In late November 2024, he scored 36 points against Notre Dame and followed it with 37 against Alabama, making him the first Division I freshman in two decades to post consecutive 35-point games. Against Columbia, he recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, registering the program's first triple-double since 1983. At the end of the year, he was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and named Third-Team All-Big Ten before declaring for the draft.

The San Antonio Spurs selected Harper with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. He made his debut on October 22, 2025, scoring 15 points off the bench in a victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Despite missing ten games with a calf injury, he scored a regular-season high of 24 points against the Indiana Pacers in March 2026 and finished the year on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

His production surged during the postseason. In Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Harper compiled 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and seven steals in a double-overtime win. The seven steals set a Spurs franchise playoff record. He joined Magic Johnson as the only rookies in NBA history to reach 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and five steals in a playoff game. In the 2026 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks, Harper averaged 18 points across five games, finishing as San Antonio's second-leading scorer in the series.
