Gabby Barrett is an American country singer known for finishing third on the sixteenth season of American Idol and releasing the hit single "I Hope." Her debut album, Goldmine, established her as a country-pop performer, while later releases include Chapter & Verse and Carols and Candlelight.
Personal life
Barrett has been married to fellow American Idol contestant Cade Foehner since October 2019. They have three children: daughters Baylah May and Ivy Josephine, and son Augustine Boone.
Barrett's first child, Baylah, was born in January 2021. Augustine was born in October 2022, and Ivy was born in February 2024.
American Idol and early performances
Barrett began singing at nine and performing live at eleven. She won the Kean Quest Talent Search in 2014, when she was 14, and later performed in gospel choirs and at venues including Heinz Field, PNC Field, and Hard Rock Cafés.
She auditioned for the sixteenth season of American Idol in 2018 and advanced to the finale. Her performances included Carrie Underwood's "Good Girl," Maren Morris's "My Church," and "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack. She finished the competition in third place after singing her original song "Rivers Deep."
Barrett returned to American Idol in 2019 to perform "I Hope." The appearance helped attract the attention of Warner Music Nashville, which signed her to the label.
"I Hope" and *Goldmine*
Barrett independently released "I Hope" in 2019. The song was later issued by Warner Music Nashville, with a version featuring Charlie Puth released in 2020. It topped the Billboard Country Streaming Songs, Country Airplay, and Hot Country Songs charts, and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
"I Hope" became the first top-10 Hot Country Songs debut by an unaccompanied woman singer since October 2017. The song was certified nine-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and earned Barrett several awards and nominations.
Her debut studio album, Goldmine, was released on June 19, 2020. Its opening week generated 15.98 million on-demand streams, a record for the largest streaming week for a debut country album by a woman. The album's songs included "The Good Ones," "Hall of Fame," and "Pick Me Up," while its deluxe edition was released in November 2021.
Tours, awards, and later albums
Barrett opened for Toby Keith in 2019 and later supported Thomas Rhett on the Center Point Road Tour in 2021. She also performed at Summerfest with the Zac Brown Band and supported Jason Aldean on the Rock N' Roll Cowboy Tour in 2022. She has performed the national anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers and at the Daytona 500.
