Finn Wolfhard

Finn Michael Wolfhard was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and attended Catholic school. His father, Eric Wolfhard, is a researcher on Indigenous land claims in Canada, and his older brother, Nick Wolfhard, is also an actor.

Wolfhard developed an interest in filmmaking and acting at a young age. His first acting appearance was in the 2012 music video for Facts' song "Retro Oceans," followed by television roles as Zoran in The 100 and Jordie Pinsky in Supernatural.

Wolfhard's breakthrough came in 2016, when he began playing Mike Wheeler in the Netflix science-fiction series Stranger Things. He auditioned by video after seeing an open casting call. The show's ensemble won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and Wolfhard appeared with co-stars Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin in a 2017 episode of Lip Sync Battle.

His feature-film breakthrough followed with Richie Tozier in It (2017), a role he reprised in It Chapter Two (2019). The casting connected two major 1980s-set projects in his early career, although his involvement in both was coincidental. He also played Tyler in Dog Days, Young Boris Pavlikovsky in The Goldfinch, Miles in The Turning, and voiced Pugsley Addams in The Addams Family.

Wolfhard continued working across live-action and animation, voicing Player in Carmen Sandiego, Candlewick in Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, and Teen Scott Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. He played Trevor Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and starred opposite Julianne Moore in Jesse Eisenberg's When You Finish Saving the World. His other screen work includes The Legend of Ochi, Saturday Night, and the animated series NEW-GEN, in which he was announced to appear alongside his brother Nick Wolfhard.

At 17, Wolfhard made his directing debut with the comedy short Night Shifts, which he also wrote. In 2023, he and Billy Bryk co-wrote, co-directed, and co-starred in the feature comedy horror film Hell of a Summer. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was named second runner-up for the People's Choice Award for Midnight Madness.

Wolfhard was the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter for the Vancouver rock band Calpurnia. The band released its debut EP, Scout, in 2018, and its single "City Boy" reached No. 23 on Billboard's Alternative Digital Song Chart and No. 1 on Spotify's Global Viral 50 playlist. Calpurnia toured North America and Europe before dissolving in 2019.

After Calpurnia ended, Wolfhard formed The Aubreys with drummer Malcolm Craig. The group released the EP Soda & Pie in 2020 and the album Karaoke Alone in 2021, along with singles including "Loved One," "Smoke Bomb," and "No Offerings," a collaboration with Lunar Vacation. Wolfhard also released the solo albums Happy Birthday and Fire from the Hip.

Wolfhard has participated in advocacy connected with autism and Indigenous children. In 2017, he hosted the benefit concert "Strange 80s" to raise funds for Sweet Relief, an organization that assists musicians who need medical care.

He performed three songs with Calpurnia at the event and received an award at the 2017 Television Industry Advocacy Awards for his work with Sweet Relief.
