Emma Chamberlain

Emma Frances Chamberlain was born on May 22, 2001, in San Bruno, California, the only child of Michael Chamberlain, an oil painter, and Sophia Chamberlain. Her parents divorced when she was five years old. During her childhood, the family experienced financial hardship, relying largely on art commissions from her father, which created difficult periods whenever illness prevented him from painting.

She attended Central Middle School in San Carlos, California, and later Notre Dame High School in Belmont, an all-girls Catholic preparatory school where she ran track and participated in cheerleading. She spent five years as a competitive cheerleader, performing on the Senior Pink team with the California Allstars in Livermore. Dissatisfied during her high school years, she left during the first semester of her junior year after passing the California High School Exit Exam, later receiving her official high school diploma in 2024.

Chamberlain began dating musician Tucker Pillsbury, who performs under the stage name Role Model, in 2020. The couple dated for three years before separating in late 2023. She has discussed experiencing body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and anxiety throughout her adolescence and early career, topics she has addressed across her media platforms.

Encouraged by her father to explore creative pursuits outside of school, Chamberlain launched her self-titled YouTube channel on June 14, 2016, posting her first video in the summer of 2017. Her channel quickly gained traction through a mix of lookbooks, thrift hauls, cooking experiments, and road trip vlogs. Her informal presentation and distinct editing techniques, marked by comedic zooms, on-screen text commentary, and deliberate pauses, influenced editing styles across the creator economy.

In June 2018, she moved independently from northern California to Los Angeles. Shortly after, she joined with beauty creator James Charles and comedic duo Ethan and Grayson Dolan to form the Sister Squad, a collaborative creator group whose videos became major viral hits on YouTube in 2018. Alongside creators Ellie Thumann and Hannah Meloche, she also formed a content group called The Girdies. Her rapid online rise earned her the 2018 Streamy Award for Breakout Creator and the 2019 Teen Choice Award for Choice Female Web Star.

Chamberlain transitioned into high fashion in early 2019, attending Paris Fashion Week through a partnership between YouTube and Louis Vuitton. She became an official brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton later that year and added an ambassadorship with jewelry house Cartier in 2022. In January 2023, she expanded her commercial profile by becoming a global brand ambassador for cosmetics brand Lancome.

Beginning in 2021, Chamberlain attended the annual Met Gala and served as a red carpet interviewer on behalf of Vogue. Her red carpet coverage attracted widespread attention, notably in 2022 following a viral exchange with rapper Jack Harlow. Her appearance at the 2022 event also drew public scrutiny when Cartier loaned her the historic Patiala necklace, a piece originally commissioned in 1928 by the Maharaja of Patiala, prompting discussions regarding colonial-era provenance.

In December 2019, Chamberlain founded Chamberlain Coffee, an online direct-to-consumer beverage brand built around her longstanding personal interest in coffee. The company initially offered bagged coffee and steeped coffee bags before broadening its catalog into matcha, whole-bean roasts, teas, ready-to-drink cans, and branded lifestyle merchandise.

The venture achieved broader retail distribution in subsequent years and opened its first permanent physical cafe at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles in January 2025, followed by a second brick-and-mortar storefront in Venice, California.

In April 2019, Chamberlain debuted her weekly podcast series under the title Stupid Genius, which won Best Podcaster at the 12th Shorty Awards. In early 2020, she overhauled the format into Anything Goes, a conversational podcast discussing psychology, relationships, philosophy, and personal growth. The show won the Pop Podcast award at the 47th People's Choice Awards and transitioned to a Spotify-exclusive platform in 2023.

Beyond online media, Chamberlain ventured into film and voice work. She voiced a reporter in the 2023 animated feature Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken and made guest appearances on television series such as Dave. She has also directed music videos, helming the 2023 visual for Role Model's single 'a little more time,' and was cast in the horror feature Forbidden Fruits alongside Lili Reinhart and Victoria Pedretti.
