Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig has been married to actress Rachel Weisz since 2011. The couple first met while working on Les Grandes Horizontales in 1994 and later co-starred in Dream House (2011). They married in a private ceremony in New York City with four guests, including Craig's daughter and Weisz's son.

Craig was previously married to Scottish actress Fiona Loudon from 1992 to 1994. They have a daughter, actress and model Ella Loudon. Craig and Weisz have a daughter, Grace, born in 2018, and Craig is stepfather to Weisz's son, Henry.

Craig began acting at the age of six, making his stage debut as part of a Frodsham Primary School production of Oliver!. His mother, art teacher Carol Olivia Craig, encouraged his interest in theatre, and he regularly attended Liverpool's Everyman Theatre. He also played rugby for Hoylake RFC and performed in school productions of Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella.

After leaving school at 16, Craig joined London's National Youth Theatre in 1984. He worked in restaurants while pursuing acting and toured with the company in Spain and Russia. He entered the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1988 and graduated in 1991 after studying under Colin McCormack. His first screen role came in The Power of One (1992), followed by stage work including Angels in America at the Royal National Theatre in 1993.

Craig's breakthrough came with the BBC drama serial Our Friends in the North (1996), in which he played George "Geordie" Peacock. He gained further attention as George Dyer in Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon (1998), and later appeared in Elizabeth, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road to Perdition, Sylvia, Layer Cake and Munich.

Craig became the sixth actor to play James Bond in the official film series when he appeared in Casino Royale (2006). His casting was controversial because he was blond and did not match the taller, dark-haired image associated with earlier versions of the character. His performance received strong critical praise and earned a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

He reprised the role in Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021). Craig's Bond appeared in the 2012 short film Happy & Glorious, in which the character escorted Queen Elizabeth II to the Olympic Games opening ceremony, and he also voiced Bond in video games including GoldenEye 007 and James Bond 007: Blood Stone.

No Time to Die was Craig's final Bond film. He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame shortly before its United States release, at 7007 Hollywood Boulevard, next to the star of fellow Bond actor Roger Moore.

Craig continued to take varied roles during his Bond tenure. He played Tuvia Bielski in the wartime drama Defiance (2008), investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and a safecracker named Joe Bang in Steven Soderbergh's heist comedy Logan Lucky (2017). He also voiced characters in Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin and made an uncredited appearance as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015).

In Rian Johnson's Knives Out (2019), Craig played the eccentric Southern detective Benoit Blanc. He returned to the role in Glass Onion (2022) and Wake Up Dead Man (2025). His performance in the first film earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

Craig played William Lee in Luca Guadagnino's Queer (2024), an adaptation of William S. Burroughs's novel. He received Golden Globe, Critics' Choice and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for the performance. He is also set to appear as Andrew Ketterley in Narnia: The Magician's Nephew.

Craig has maintained a substantial stage career. He appeared in the Royal Court Theatre production of Caryl Churchill's A Number in 2002 and made his Broadway debut opposite Hugh Jackman in A Steady Rain (2009). He later starred with Rachel Weisz in the Broadway revival of Harold Pinter's Betrayal (2013), played Iago in a New York Theatre Workshop production of Othello (2016), and portrayed Macbeth opposite Ruth Negga in a 2022 Broadway revival.

His public work has also included charity and humanitarian campaigns. Craig participated in Comic Relief and Broadway Cares fundraising events, worked with Orbis International in Mongolia, and supported organisations including S.A.F.E. Kenya and the Opportunity Network. In 2015, the United Nations appointed him its first global advocate for the elimination of mines and explosive hazards, a role connected with the UN Mine Action Service and the Safe Ground campaign.

Craig was appointed an honorary Commander in the Royal Navy in 2021. He was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to film and theatre.
