Cris MJ, born Christopher Andrés Álvarez García, is a Chilean singer-songwriter known for his reggaeton and Latin urban music. He gained international recognition with “Una Noche en Medellín” and its remix featuring Karol G and Ryan Castro. His collaboration with FloyyMenor on “Gata Only” further established him as a prominent Chilean artist on global charts.

Career

Cris MJ began creating music in 2019 and released his first song, “Codeina Pelco C,” on YouTube in July of that year. He taught himself music production and initially recorded music videos on an iPhone, while also uploading Spanish covers of English rap and trap songs to social media. In 2020, he moved from La Serena to Santiago and released “Como Tú Ninguna,” his first official single.

His early work included songs such as “Locura y Maldad,” “De Ti Soy Adicto,” “Te Fuiste Con Otro” and “Los Malvekes,” the latter featuring Marcianeke and Simón la Letra. He also collaborated with Gotay on “Yo No Me Olvido,” and with Polimá Westcoast and Young Cister on “Sextime.” His debut albums are Welcome to My World (2022), Partyson (2023), Apocalipsis (2025) and LAS FILTRADAS (2025).

Una Noche en Medellín

Released in January 2022, “Una Noche en Medellín” became Cris MJ’s breakthrough song after going viral on TikTok and entering international music charts. The track later received a remix featuring Colombian singers Karol G and Ryan Castro, after Karol G discovered the song and joined the project.

Cris MJ and Karol G first performed the remix together at the 2023 Viña del Mar festival. The collaboration gave him his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, where it reached No. 68, and it was included on Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) album. The song also achieved major streaming and video milestones on Spotify and YouTube.

Gata Only

Cris MJ collaborated with FloyyMenor on “Gata Only,” released in February 2024. Cris MJ reached out to FloyyMenor and proposed contributing to the song. Like “Una Noche en Medellín,” the track grew rapidly through social media virality and became a global reggaeton hit.

“Gata Only” reached No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Its performance marked the first time a Chilean artist had entered the top 10 of that chart since La Ley and Ednita Nazario’s “Tu Sabes Bien” reached No. 8 in 1999. Cris MJ followed the success with “Si No Es Contigo,” which also gained attention in the United States.
