Carr was born in Stockbridge, Georgia, to Cozard and Cynthia Carr. He has an older sister named Caidyn. His father played college basketball at Denmark Technical College in South Carolina.

High school and recruiting

Carr began his prep basketball career at Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia. He earned First Team All-County honors in 2022 before transferring. He spent his final two high school seasons at Legacy Early College in Greenville, South Carolina, playing under head coach Barney Jackson.

During his junior year, Carr averaged 14.1 points per game in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference. He also played on the AAU circuit with the Georgia Stars, averaging 8.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.3 steals at the 2022 Peach Jam. Recruiting services rated him a four-star prospect. Both 247Sports and On3 ranked him as the top recruit in South Carolina. In 2023, he earned an invitation to the Iverson Classic and competed in the High School Slam Dunk Championship before committing to Michigan State.

Michigan State Spartans

Carr debuted for Michigan State in November 2023, scoring 14 points and grabbing six rebounds against James Madison. He played in all 35 games as a freshman, averaging 3.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in limited minutes off the bench. His transition dunks drew attention across the Big Ten.

His role expanded during his sophomore season in 2024-25. Carr appeared in all 37 games, boosting his averages to 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor. He scored a then-career-high 18 points and nine rebounds against Bryant in the NCAA Tournament.

As a junior in 2025-26, Carr became a full-time starter and served as a team captain. He started all 35 games and raised his averages to 12.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. Dunking remained a staple of his game. He finished second in the Big Ten with 67 dunks. Carr scored a career-best 22 points in a December 2025 win over Oakland and later posted his first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.

National team appearances

Carr represented the United States at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary. He played alongside Brandon Gardner, Eric Dailey Jr., and Myles Colvin. The American squad finished the tournament in 11th place. Earlier that year, USA Basketball invited him to its Junior National Team minicamp.
